Bluemoon Angling Thread

I took a Ukranian lad out and taught him to fish and he caught roach, bream and perch.

Went perch fishing with worms and got plagued with small perch.

A couple of short lure sessions for very little/nothing, I can't quite remember.

Yesterday I had a longer session and tried some new waters as I've joined a new club (Bradford Number 1). An hour on a park lake resulted in no fish but a long conversation with the bailiff. It's hardly fished, is days only but contains some "proper" fish. He reckons there is a shoal of old double figure bream in there which go to 15lb+. I think the bream is the one fish I've never had a true specimen and I don't even know what my PB is, having basically tried to avoid them for the last 25 years. But I might take this on as a project this spring.

I walked a new canal and hooked one good fish which came off before I saw it but the bright conditions didn't fill me with confidence, so I headed to the canal spot I've had the two big perch this spring and fished worm on the float until dark. I had a pike, a chub and two medium perch.
I believe Bradford 1 have some great stretches of Yorkshire rivers mate, did you have to wait to get in?

Think I've previously mentioned that Bosley res on your PA card contains some absolute huge dustbin lid sized Bream. My pb is around 8lb so if i get in Albert i may decide to target them on Bosley, especially if night fishing is allowed.

After 20 years I've decided to sack off PAAS this year pal. I was only using it for The Ribble stretches really. I'm moving to more local waters and decided to cut my ties with north west fishing and explore further on this side of the pennines. There are loads and loads of rivers including good perch ones (Wharfe and Aire). Not many big barbel though. I might try to catch a double figure barbel in The Calder which is a big challenge. I've got a tip off where a few live.

Bosley does have big ones, as does Redesmere. Night fishing is allowed on both.

Fair enough. No point paying Albert subs for just fishing the Ribble. Have Bradford got any stretches on the Yorkshire Derwent? Some real biggies in there, albeit few and far between I've heard.

As you know, I joined Scunthorpe AA to target tidal stretch Barbel, maybe you should put some of your saved Albert subs towards a £55 ticket and join me in a few sessions mate.

I'm also on a Trent syndicate waiting list for nighting on Fiskerton. Not sure if I'll get in this season, and if i do i think I will ask the secretary if i can defer joining this year as i won't have the time to go there as well as scunny waters.

I do want to hit the Trent again this year after a year or two off and might look at that ticket actually. I'll be intrested to see if it's relatively peaceful. Yes, Bradford has stretches of the DErwent. Last I heard there were only tiny numbers of barbel but it's a lovely river. May be a bit too far away and low stocked for me to take on though, unless I'm wrong.

I think Scunthorpe's (and other clubs) night fishing stretches will be busier than ever now Collingham AA have privatised their stretch to members only. One thing for sure is A1 pits stretch is gonna get absolutely hammered next season and it's already a highly pressured stretch as it is.

But Scunthorpe have 6 tidal stretches and one non tidal to aim at. Miles and miles of river that hardly sees an angler. The pegs nearest to car access I will leave alone and I'll barrow my gear to a quiet spot to avoid the crowds. May take a bit of pre-baiting and patience but I'm up for it as I'm determined to smash my pb with a mid to upper double as they're certainly in there.

Some decent barbel and chub in the Nidd at Cowthorpe which should be on the Bradford No. 1 book.

Great stuff mate. The Trent is hammered but people insist on driving to their pegs so if you have to walk you will have lovely areas to yourself. I'll have a look at it now. I fished the tidal twice a couple of years ago and Mitton Crabs made it a nightmare to be honest but hopefully there are less of them around.

Scunthorpe have a few drive to peg stretches and i think they will get the most pressure but it's nowhere near as heavily fished as A1 pits stretch or Collingham, so I'm told.

I've been told it's best to use air dried boilies to try and combat those nuisance Mitton Crabs mate. Never even seen one but I'm prepared with 22mm rock hard boilies hoping they go for the spod mix instead.

As you know, fishing a big river like the Trent can result in many hours of waiting around for the alarm to go off, often when least expecting it! If you do join I don't mind sharing info and tips with you but I wont be broadcasting much info as I don't want my fishing to become as busy as Blackpool prom. Peace and quiet is a big part of the reason i go so I think I've done with A1 pits now.

My heat for the Scottish National is tomorrow so wish me luck. I was out for a practice day today and we shared 18 to the boat including a couple to dries. Some big fish up to 6lb. If I can replicate that tomorrow I will be well pleased.

Menteith was glorious today. Lambs, grebes, Ospreys. Buzzer hatches….

When you say, 'shared 18 fish', do you mean like City and the scouse have shared the last 5 PL titles? :-)
Good luck fella!

Good luck and tight lines mate.

Anyone thinking of getting new Winter fishing gear I can recommend the Prologic Comfort fishing suit which I have mentioned before. Only £50.99 from Angling Direct. That's for large. Medium and XL are £63.99. Typical, I've just got a new one and paid £89.99 for it.

Bought one 2 years ago for 70 quid, included a free RidgeMonkey baseball cap. Bargain.

That's an interesting idea actually

oh very relaxing, yesterday i went for a relaxing fish at poynton (macc canal) went for the perch, after about 2 mins i snagged and it wasn't moving, i ended up snapping off,and i had forgotten my glasses, so i put the perch kit away and tried for a pike or two, second cast i snagged right under my feet, again it wouldnt budge, i tried putting the pressure on to straighten the hook, the hook didn't bend , the trace didn't snap, even my usually shit knots held firm, then my new rod snapped, cut my thumb and twatted my knuckle , aaah very relaxing haha

i've been in touch with the company i bought the rod from, they have asked me to send them pics, hopefully ill get a replacement.
