Will do mate.
Unfortunately, like salmon fishing, it's not what it used to be.
But if you can find a pool with a few fresh ones coming in it can still be great fun!
Used to do a lot of this as a teenager before I went over to the dark side and started sitting on a plastic box. Used to do well on Hugh falkus's 'medicine' fly pattern - happily also a really easy one to tie. Doubt I could cast a fly now, much less tie one!

Had a couple of wanders with the lure rod with nothing much of interest.

Sunday morning I was up with the larks to start a new project: a park lake which contains massive bream which no-one fishes for. This was the first time I've fished for bream in 25 years. It was totally freezing and miserable but I went for it. Weed was sprouting everywhere but I eventually found a clear area and spodded a couple of kilos of groundbait/pellets/corn out at 70 yards and fished a straight lead on top of that. 6lb line, 6lb flouro hook length. Had a perch on lobworm first cast and a number of perchy pulls in the first 10 minutes, then it went totally quiet for the next 6 hours despite changing baits.

A disappointing start but I'll be back.
Are ther carp/carp fishermen there in any numbers? You mentioned pellets, but on a lot of heavily fished carp places nowadays the big bream and tench seem to get preoccupied with boilies.

The weather.. Only in this country!

Thursday a.m. session now cancelled despite the effort and cost of 3 nights prebaiting!

Forecast at 05.00 (and would be fishing by then in the plan) is 15C, bright sunshine and not a touch of wind to drive any kind of ripple on the river. Targeting large bream in that... I don't think so :-(

Revised plan currently is Sunday morning, when it's forecast to be overcast and raining.

Tight lines all that make it out Thursday.

Yeah, it's a pisser. On the Wye from Monday (we're avoiding the weekend this year) and, although it's getting cooler, conditions don't look promising. I'm half minded to set up to see if I can get a bream but can't find much on the internet to give me a steer.

No. It is days only so only a handful of carp lads fish it. It's full of bloodworm and massive clouds of daphnia so the fish are preoccupied on naturals. I had another trip up last week actually, got there and I'd left my bait bucket at home so abandoned it and went to the canal to try to stalk an orange koi carp I've found as I had one tub of worms. I came close too.

Had a pike last night too on a floating lure imitating a frog which was really good fun.

I'm massively focussed on the rivers at the moment. Sunday I spent all afternoon exploring new rivers/swims and I am getting my baitrunners serviced and getting ready for action when the fuss has died down and some bait gone in.

Good luck to all river anglers this year!

Proper fishing that mate. Due a heatwave and not much rain so rivers might be slow to start I think.

I'm hoping to get on the tidal Trent next week for a couple of nights, probably tues as i have have an important pool match night Monday.

I don't know what to expect as it could be case of waiting for the fish to move in the swim. I'm not sure whether to spomb lots of bait out or use a feeder, @Didsbury Dave, what you reckon mate?

Good luck and tight lines this season everyone: )

I buy most of my trout, grayling and sea trout patterns... Too bloody fiddly with my ham fists and spawny eyes!
Medicine fly is still a good one mate.
My fave's on a floating line as it gets dark would be a brown turkey or dark mackerel on the point and a bibio on the dropper.

You know my thoughts pal. I’d use the spomb every single time on The Trent.

I looked into that club and they’ve closed membership!

Thought you'd say that, matter of filling it in and waiting then.

I'd heard they were taking on new members on a daytime fishing only basis. With Collingham now closed to night guests i think all decent club stretches have had a flood of enquiries wanting to join.

My mate suggested we go on A1 pits stretch first couple of weeks but it will be absolutely rammed, and the very reason i got in the club. I'm hoping i can seek out as much peace n' quiet as possible, hence buying a tackle barrow to get away from those that want to park and fish.

That’s right. I was going to join for nights but you can’t. Can you take guests?

I couldn’t resist rejoining PAAS after all because I feel the call of the Ribble and it’s barbel. I’m going to hang back a while. Let them all crash their feeders around and fill it in for a few days and let the fish get back on bait.

I believe i can take a partner (non fishing) but i haven't got a partner. I doubt the bailiff would be fooled by two lots of gear and only one card. I don't know whether they'll relax night fishing ban on new members, I'll let you know if i find anything out pal.
