Bolo (15 / 17ft rod) and pole on the river Aire . Roach do come up mid water for loose feed mid match / session. Plenty of cut out pegs but bank can be treacherous in poor weather. Aire and Canal deep ( 8 - 10 ft ) canalised venue , good access and banking/ footpaths. RE river Calder i haven’t fished the venue but shallower than the Aire and plenty of roach dace and chub plus bream in the slower moving pegs . Huddersfield canal is an inigma , match weights generally poor .
Is Southfield res part of the A&C too?

I’m not in Mirfield but I do fish in the area for predators. Happy to help you if I can.
Thanks, Im not into the toothy rascals but one of our gang dosent mind a little lure fishing. Saying that we have a day on the Bridgie around Lymm occasionally. I have never even felt what it feels like to have a pike or even a perch take a lure. Also we are off to the Avon at Barton in June and he's hoping to catch a Zander whole we're there.

Yes, to be honest the fishing is mainly terrible around here if you like big fish.

Too true, I've found out that it's difficult here. I went to a talk many years ago where the great Ivan Marks was guest spesker. He said that as you come up the M6 there should be a sign that says "Anglers Beware, Devoid of Fsh" Also signs saying No Fishing should say "No Fish in" . Anyway lets see what them Yorkies have in store for us.

I’ve lived all around the UK and West Yorkshire is the worst fishing I’ve ever come across. Grim reservoirs, ugly dirty rivers and canals, with shitty little fish. There’s hardly anything to go at without travelling. Sometimes I take that on as a challenge in itself.

Hi Didsbury Dave , Rufford canal around the village of Rufford is fishing well for pike to low double figures on lures . Lovely area and miles of canal to go at , day ticket on bank aswell . Just park up by the church on the side road just past canal bridge at Rufford .

This is why I moved to the Midlands ,(but don't tell the girlfriend as she thinks it was to be with her). The fishing is miles better and especially for a Northern angler used to scratching out a few small roach from the Bridgewater.

Curious thing though, although the waters are stuffed with fish, they will insist on piling more in on top so it becomes unchallenging.

The happy medium, I guess, is the rivers but they're taking a pounding from abstraction and cormorants or otters.
