I’ve been on a long drought but it’s over with a bang.
I’ve been popping out for odd short sessions when I can but I’ve been really busy so just an hour here and there with the lure rods. Last week I improvised and freelined a bunch of worms on my perch setup and had a 1lb perch.
Next week it’s my annual heavyweight pike trip on a boat at Esthwaite water so I bought some new lures. I had a few hours free this afternoon so decided to have a play with them. Had a jack pike on a curly tailed buster jerk bait and then decided to move canals and try the perch rod. 2nd or 3rd cast with a little shad and a football of a perch lunged up by my feet and missed the lure. That got the heart racing and I dropped the lure back in in hope. Bang, it hit it again like a train. I’d like to report a titanic battle but there wasn’t one and it came in easily. Oh my. This was a special perch and after collaring a dog Walker for photos I did an extremely careful weighing session because we were in PB territory, certainly for my local canal.
It was 2lb 15 and a half oz.
