Bluemoon Angling Thread

I’ve been on a long drought but it’s over with a bang.

I’ve been popping out for odd short sessions when I can but I’ve been really busy so just an hour here and there with the lure rods. Last week I improvised and freelined a bunch of worms on my perch setup and had a 1lb perch.

Next week it’s my annual heavyweight pike trip on a boat at Esthwaite water so I bought some new lures. I had a few hours free this afternoon so decided to have a play with them. Had a jack pike on a curly tailed buster jerk bait and then decided to move canals and try the perch rod. 2nd or 3rd cast with a little shad and a football of a perch lunged up by my feet and missed the lure. That got the heart racing and I dropped the lure back in in hope. Bang, it hit it again like a train. I’d like to report a titanic battle but there wasn’t one and it came in easily. Oh my. This was a special perch and after collaring a dog Walker for photos I did an extremely careful weighing session because we were in PB territory, certainly for my local canal.

It was 2lb 15 and a half oz. View attachment 69489

wow. Thats a beauty Dave.
You deserve it after all the effort.
Your scales surely measure 1/2 oz short though :-)

I hear there has been some big pike caught on the Wye recently.

Roll on March 3rd when we kick all you coarse plebs off our beat and start fly fishing for the non existent salmon :)
There is one, at present still at sea, heading towards the Wye, who's destiny is intertwined with your own. Mark my words. It is big and it is very silver.

Great Photo. Is that a Trevally?

Yes, giant trevally or a "geet" (pron. jeet) as we locals call them. My mate caught that one and I had to land it which is no mean feat without a net.

I only got one but bonefish aplenty. Weather has been atrocious which gave me real problems notwithstanding my casting lessons. Once in a lifetime experience though.

Now sweating on our connections as plane from the island has broken down. Eek !

Glad you enjoyed it. Have a safe trip home mate.

Dream fishing mate. Give us a full report when you get back.

Update. The plane taking us off the island developed a fault. We've missed all our comnections now. We're staying another night. Hate to think how many thousands it's going to cost us to get new flights and expect we have lost our extra leg-room seats.

Bugger!
Oh well, just have another week fishing there instead mate!

Good angling there Dave and an absolutely stunning stripy. No wonder you look pleased.
Made up for you, I know you put the hard yards in, that pic says it all.
Congrats.
