Bluemoon's Official Top 100 TV Shows

Stranger Things was actually my #4, which was maybe a bit high in retrospect but it's something that my daugthers and I binge watched together.
It says something that my wife and two daughters, none of whom have a love of sci-fi or horror, really enjoyed watching the series with me.

Well, I've never watched Madmen; although it's one of the series that I may try.

I love it's setting both in time and location and as BH's precis says: several themes and directorial aspects were inspired primarily by the works of Steven Spielberg, John Carpenter, and Stephen King - my favourite director, another of my favoured directors and my favourite author. It uses its inspirations brilliantly and transports me back in time.
Yes, I know its heritages very well. I thought it contrived and just a bit too clever for its own good and didn't make it past series 1. There are far better King inspired TV shows. Mr Mercedes for example, the original Salems Lot series. If I want Spielberg or Carpenter I would watch one of their films.
Nice that shared the experience with your daughters though. I can well imagine that would give it a special place in your list :-).

Give Madmen a go.

There wouldn't be too much jeopardy if I left this any longer, so as we approach the Top 40, I thought I'd try predicting the top 10. This is not my personal favourites - I only had 4 of these listed in my submitted 20 - but a gut feeling based on people's comments and also those programmes that tend to do well in these sorts of polls.
  1. Breaking Bad
  2. The Sopranos
  3. Band of Brothers
  4. The Wire
  5. Fawlty Towers
  6. Game of Thrones
  7. Blackadder
  8. Chernobyl
  9. The Simpsons
  10. Twin Peaks

Outside Bets:

Star Trek (original)
The Walking Dead
Red Dwarf

My daughters were the one's who alerted me to it. They aren't big on sc-fi although they do like things like Marvel and StarWars; horror definitely not their thing.

I wouldn't describe Mr Mercedes as King inspired: it's an adaptation not an homage. I have watched the first series of that but I now need to read the next book.

I disagree that it was contrived.

Going back and watching movies I've seen time and again is very different to watching something that combines different elements very cleverly to produce something in nature that those being paid tribute to don't make any more. A whole different experience but obviously not one that appeals to you, which is cool: each to their own :)
