All the more strange...

In my opinion, if one is innocent and you have witnesses to back that to the hilt, you use them, full stop. However, if you've stated you're innocent and the witnesses may just not concur with your view, then you have problems.

Perhaps they thought 'mitigating circumstances' via 'provocation' might just win them the day...
The proescutaion could make Mother Thersa sound like the bat out of hell .if you were in crown court & had the chance of getting no jail time for pleading guilty or a strech if the jury didnt believe you what would you do ?

Why the fook would anyone plead if they're innocent??

Does that make sense to any sane person who knows that the BAR STAFF would vindicate the story of self defence?? The prosecution would have to make liars of the bar staff too, surely?

*shakes head*

Wow...
Welcome to the real world every thing is not always black & white i dont no what happend that night but if the Scum fans ran of they were proberly chased so that is when the prosecution would say they were no longer defending themselves

Then they're idiots and probably not a brain cell between them. If you've been in court before (which I presume some of them have!!), you would certainly knowing what a 'leading question' was and how to side step it. After all, the incriminating answer is the question, surely!! So, that would mean they're not very bright.

No matter the 'explanation' it doesn't stack up. Sorry.

There probably wouldn't have been any trouble if the United fans hadn't of been looking for it .... nothing had apparently occured before their arrival.

The rags did a runner when the cops came calling , as you would expect , and obviously the City fans in the pub were trapped inside as the staff had previously attempted to close the doors/shutters .....

if it had of been three cops inside the pub who were attacked , every possible effort would have been made to find those responsible , no doubt about that .... but three (probably well-oiled) City fans are much easier targets than a bunch of running yobs , and especially if the bar staff failed to back up their story of what happened.

its funny never read anything about the scum who attacked the kings Head pub getting arrested after the derby a few years ago! a very similar situation by the sounds of it blue's being outnumbered in a pub and trying to protect
themselves and some being very seriously hurt! the arrested seems to be always one sided

The City lads "trapped inside"?? "...especially if the bar staff failed to back up their story of what happened"??

Come on, BM, the staff's safety was at risk too, so WHY didn't they speak out in defence of them??

What I say is nowt personal towards the City lads. It's just football d*ckheads in general that p*ss me off.

To quote a sharper mind than I: "when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth", meaning some of the opposite of their story must hold some sway in this case. CCTV probably played a part in the decision to plead guilty. Their lawyer would certainly have told them to fight their if he/ she believed them. Guilty is plea advised if there's enough evidence to cast doubt towards the defendant/s.

I certainly don't buy the claim of 'innocence' here.

My own personal experience at crown court that's what would happen. The prosecution wouldn't have to make liars out of the bar staff, they'd just use leading questions.

Was these city fans defending themselves ? ( they'd never in a million years ask that question )

Correct, leading Questions asked by the prosecution but the defence shouldn't have much problem creating reasonable doubt, surely?

I get what he meant now!! I read it assuming the defendants, so apologies.

Still, Collie calls it right.

The defence would just ask the bar staff to clarify anything they thought damaged the case as a leading question usually offers a 'yes' or 'no' as the first port of call answer. After all, that sticks in the mind of a juror and CP could just cut off any other answer from a witness as long as they hear what they want to hear.

A later vendetta maybe ... against the pub and its staff??

By yobs who were quick enough to run away to live to fight another day ??

It's hard to believe that just three City fans would put in a huge amount of effort to 'goad' a large and threatening mob of rags outside ... even if they had had a few beers!
