As you can see we have an extra line and that's due to the fact I missed a team off Facebook from the start of January and have had to add them in and naturally they've gone top. That means for the comp to really work fairly we'll need to have a prelim to the prelim round and that will be next week between the bottom 2 teams, so maybe a slightly more tense final 2 days of this week's events, the categories are:

PGA Tour-Northern Trust Open-Category C.
European Tour-Africa Open-Category F.

Next week is the WGC Matchplay, good times a'coming!

Re: Bluemoon Golf Competition 2013

Cheers JMW, hopefully doesn't take up too much of your time sorting out the scoring. Appreciated, maybe I can move up a bit if Schwartzel can get a win this week.

mcfc_nick said:
can you lose points this week?

Nope, basically this is how it's going to work:

It's a Category B event, so the winner receives an automatic 750 points. The usual points system applies but obviously it has to be modified because of the unique format, so there are some changes.

As the points for Category B events run down to 30th place= 5 points, it would mean that the first round matches would end up being irrelevant without changes. Therefore the First Round matches for the Matchplay are worth 50 points to the winner of each match, therefore if your player wins a match this week you are guaranteed at least 50 points. If your player loses in the first round he goes home with nothing.

From then on the normal points kick in, however to reward tight matches and players who lose narrowly compared to those who get thumped from the 2nd round onwards the losing players will be ranked according to the size of their defeat. For example:

Say in Round 2 we get these fictional results:

Tiger Woods def. Chris Wood 2&1.
Rory McIlroy def. Thomas Bjorn 5&4.
Jim Furyk def. Steve Stricker on the 19th hole.

Instead of all the losing players being ranked T17th, they would be ranked 17th-32nd according to the size of their loss. So in this instance Steve Stricker would finish higher than Chris Wood who would finish higher than Thomas Bjorn and therefore score more points, if Stricker's was the best losing result he would finish 17th(as the 16 winners would go through to next round) and he would score 70 points(+ his 50 for his first round win) as opposed to Bjorn who's result let's say is the worst, he'd finish 32nd and therefore score no points for his 2nd Round match and go home with just the 50 he banked in Round 1.

Hope that's clear to everybody, the table will be up later on. Any questions about this week's format just ask.

Re: Bluemoon Golf Competition 2013

Right well a week where the big names managed to balls up at some point or another allowing John Merrick to defeat Charlie Beljan in a play-off to win the Northern Trust Open, a week of missed opportunities for many of the top stars but a few of them managed to rake in the points, here's the table:

1) MC 2405
2) PhuketBlue 2040
3) TaxiforCreaney 1930
4) Carstairs 1675
5) The cookie monster 1550
6) mancmackem 1545
7) mindmyp's_n_q's 1410
8) City Raider 1365
9) angleseyblue 1345
10) Wizard 1325

14) Balti 1270
15) leighton 1265
16) sky tot 1215
17) jerseyblue 1180
18) bluemonkey71 1175
19) ReturnoftheMac 1100
20) JoeMercer'sWay 1050
21) Tenerife Blue 1040

36) manc73 300
37) Biggsy1 285
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
38) homerdog 245
39) ohfk 200

This means that homerdog & ohfk will contest the first preliminary round of the BM Golf Cup which takes place this week at the Matchplay, whoever wins that will join the teams who finish underneath the first dotted line after this week at the Cadillac to determine who will qualify for the First Round Proper at The Masters, so to make it all nice and official:

BM Golf Cup-First Preliminary Round

homerdog v ohfk.

We move onto the first WGC of the year, it is of course the Accenture Matchplay which means the points system has to be altered slightly, here's confirmation of how the points work for this week:

It's a Category B event, so the winner receives an automatic 750 points. The usual points system applies but obviously it has to be modified because of the unique format, so there are some changes.

Hope that's clear to everybody, the table will be up later on. Any questions about this week's format just ask.

Re: Bluemoon Golf Competition 2013

2 All Irish ties in the Matchplay. I wouldnt be shocked to see 2 upsets in the both games. With Lowery and Harrington getting the better over the Gmac and Rory who is struggling a wee bit. The 2 should win but with Matchplay you just never know whats going to happen.
