Board games

If you want online board games (too many to count) try https://boardgamearena.com/lobby
very good.

im a pinball addict in my youth and the 21 tables at Williams pinball app, bringsback happy memories. I think I’d played 18 of them IRL.

We did a murder mystery type game with the kids last weekend, and it was pretty enjoyable tbh. Very well done with the clues (you have to search online for some of them), and it was a good evening’s entertainment. Takes about 3 hours on total, but goes quickly as you get immersed in it. Not cheap at over £20, but can be re-used by friends/family if you don’t write on it (post-its come in handy here).

Got back into board games during lockdown as another way of keeping my 2 young kids entertained. I think I'd developed a natural aversion to them after too many drawn-out games of Monopoly. However there are so many contemporary board games which offer a quicker gameplay experience.

My favourites up to now are:

King of Tokyo - dice-based but not all luck - battle monsters in and out of Tokyo
Camel Up - bet on a camel race , too light-hearted to be a 'gateway' game to gambling I'd hope
Azul - abstract game, nice aesthetics
Santorini - challenging 2 player abstract game
Ticket to Ride Europe - build routes across Europe, often on sale at Amazon
Kingdomino - nice twist on the traditional dominoes game, my kids love it
Zombie Kids Evolution - cheap but fun game, the rules evolve as you play through each scenario, hence the name
Forbidden Island - co-operative game so avoids the arguments & tantrums competitive games can result in with kids.

Any other recommendations would be appreciated!

Settlers of Catan - excellent
Kingdom builder - looks simple, but you can become very skilled/sneaky.

Wotcha, Dragonwood is easy fun for the younger aged kids, and Carcassone is a classic. I've got a new game, quite interactive and multi layered, it's about European and World birds. Haven't even unpacked it yet and frankly in this heat that's the last thing I want to be doing! Sitting in me pants eating a cheese omelette if you must know!

I assume that new game you got is Wingspan? I've been debating getting that myself, was kind of put off by the subject matter. Once you do get round to playing it let me know what you think.
