Boateng and Kolarov

At his best Kolarov is world class. Cole is better but other than him Kolarov is easily better than any other left back in the league.

Gael Clichy gives him a ten-break, don't hang-on to every word Mourinho spouts...especially when he's not buying ('the oldest trick in the book'). Spewing from a crossed football ain't world class, stopping such offensive moves is the very reason a fullback is on the park, the promise of some up-coming left footed strike further down the line does not trump the day job. He ain't a natural fullback, not saying he can't be made into one or that that transition is'nt playing out in front of our eyes...but world class is stretching it...especially when the person who's recently bought him starts deciding he needs a sit down.

Great post. I can't imagine why so many Blues are wanking over the prospect of a left-footed screamer when the rest of his game is meh.

Due to the rotation policy, we couldn't play Zab and Richards every game. But I believe both Boa and AK13 would come good soon, just give them some time to play with the team.

We have all seen what Boa is capable of in the World Cup and AK13 is a cracking attacking fullback at his best.

Rotation policy must be for a reason (unless your last name is Ranieri). I suppose one reason is the inability to make up one's mind whilst simultaneously appeasing the Hughes and Ireland and Dunne types, and we know they must be satisified as they know what is what about everything (except how to find their own arses).

He's not better than Clichy.,....not that i expect you to agree with it. But Clichy is proven class in this league and is a better defender

Clichy is up and down, some games he looks fantastic other times he looks dodgy and switches off, Gooners I know think he is ok nothing more nothing less.

Not over impressed so far.

Well for a kick-off Jérôme Boateng is not a full back. He isn't! He filled in at right back for Hamburg towards the end of last season and did well and for Germany he had more experience than the left back who was picked in the squad so filled in there and did well. But this in no way means he is a full back.

As a full back, and especially when a team plays with two defensive midfielders, you need your full backs to get up and down the wing. You need him to be able to take a player on in the opposition corner but then be aware, fit and fast enough to ve able to sprint back numerous times to do his defensive duties again.

Boateng is a centre half as he doesn't posses the abilities above. He is tall, strong and great at heading out defensively. He's not that quick which is a bit of a let down. But overall I would like to see him as our bench CB in many Prem games and starting CB in some Prem games and cup games.


Kolorov has been really excellent in one or two of or games. Then since his suspension he has come back and been a bit nervous looking. I think he just needs a bit more time settling in. He is a full back and has shown at times he can defend well. He just looks short of confidence.


Zabaleta for right back though. Automatic starter for me. He's been as good as anyone for us this season. Kompany, de Jong, Silva, Tevez, Zabaleta have been our best players!

Why is no one suggesting Micah for right back? Has had a great season in my opinion and would have him in over Zab any day of the week. I like Zab, just think he is an accident waiting to happen with his crazy tackles!

To me JB definitely looks like a centre-half playing at right-back. He looks good in the tackle and good in the air, reads the game well for a young lad, it's just backing off the winger and turning his back every time the oppo winger even suggests he might contemplate feigning a cross that does my head in. He'll be a good centre-half in the future though, I've got faith in an Italian to spot a good defender. Zaba has had a brilliant season and in my mind is one of those players who is almost too versatile, playing everywhere and therefore not able to nail down that right-back spot.

Very well put and pretty much what i've ben saying since the world cup. There is no way Boateng is a full-back. The turning your back on a winger who feigns a cross is schoolboy defending.
