Boateng and Kolarov

Don't like Boateng, not impressing me at all.

he's slow, passing is poor, he looks like he's got lead boots on, hos body language is shocking.

and i'm being honest now, he is by far the worse defender i've seen in a long while, who doesn't get tight, don't think he's ever within 15 yards of his man, looks so umcomfortable on the ball.

I'll give him time, he's only gonna improve by getting more game time, but everytime he's played, he's just got worse.

i'd stick zaba their against arsenal everytime.

At his best Kolarov is world class. Cole is better but other than him Kolarov is easily better than any other left back in the league.

Boateng is nothing special.

Kolarov on the left, Zab on the right and we're sorted.

To me JB definitely looks like a centre-half playing at right-back. He looks good in the tackle and good in the air, reads the game well for a young lad, it's just backing off the winger and turning his back every time the oppo winger even suggests he might contemplate feigning a cross that does my head in. He'll be a good centre-half in the future though, I've got faith in an Italian to spot a good defender. Zaba has had a brilliant season and in my mind is one of those players who is almost too versatile, playing everywhere and therefore not able to nail down that right-back spot.

As for Kolarov, Mourinho rates him as the 2nd best left-back in the world behind Ashley Cole, once he gets used to this league he'll be fine. Anyone who saw Sinclair give Evra the run around on the rag bastard's debut will appreciate that it takes time to get used to the league.

another shit pointless thread blocking up the system.

heres a tip ................follow a scouse team !

I don't agree with most here, Kolarov has been mostly very good in his limited time with us. It's clear he's got a serious left foot, he's a real danger and adds to our offensive options, although we tend to be tremendously one sided and end up down the right sometimes too much for him to be effective. He got beat by a speed merchant twice today, people are making far too much of it. 2 plays in the match do not necessarily mean a poor performance. He was still active, forward, and dangerous, which is what we ask of him. A couple lazy offsides, but this wasn't a great game, and certainly not as bad a game as some are making it out to be. I think he's absolutely better than Zabaleta at LB, who is far too prone to the yellow and red card tackles.

Boateng is a much more interesting case. He's actually quite good at getting into dangerous positions, but his touch is his downfall right now. He simply can't dribble at people or in space without giving the ball away, which is why he feels so much like a CB as opposed to a full back. I don't know if his touch can be materially improved at this point, so a CB may make more sense, but I do think it's his inability to dribble and move with the ball that has been his undoing thus far for us. At this point Micah may be a slightly better option for the weekend, but Micah suffers from many of the same issues Boateng does in defense, in that he struggles to really latch onto the crossing player and deny the cross. I'd probably be inclined to stick with Boateng, who at least has been playing regular first team football.

I think its time we get a natural Right Back. We have to many CB In RB they get turned in and out too easily. Zab should definitely be 1st choice but really could see Boateng becoming a great CB alongside Kompany.

Annoyed at how often Kolarov shoots from long range. Reminds me of Barton when in possession, in that he's trying to hard. Simple ball that keeps possession always beats spectacular shot with a 10% chance of going in.

Not sure about the Boateng hate on here, he has made a few mistakes but mainly seems to be doing ok. Got a good cross on him.

Like many not really been impressed with either of them. I was hoping they would be much better especially Boateng. Hopefully they'll improve with time but Im beginning to think this maybe there level. Personally for the time being I'd stick with Zab on the right and Kolarov on the left for now and see how it goes. In the longer term when were seriously challenging for the title we should on the look out for one or two compact, pacy and skillful full backs.
