I don't agree with most here, Kolarov has been mostly very good in his limited time with us. It's clear he's got a serious left foot, he's a real danger and adds to our offensive options, although we tend to be tremendously one sided and end up down the right sometimes too much for him to be effective. He got beat by a speed merchant twice today, people are making far too much of it. 2 plays in the match do not necessarily mean a poor performance. He was still active, forward, and dangerous, which is what we ask of him. A couple lazy offsides, but this wasn't a great game, and certainly not as bad a game as some are making it out to be. I think he's absolutely better than Zabaleta at LB, who is far too prone to the yellow and red card tackles.
Boateng is a much more interesting case. He's actually quite good at getting into dangerous positions, but his touch is his downfall right now. He simply can't dribble at people or in space without giving the ball away, which is why he feels so much like a CB as opposed to a full back. I don't know if his touch can be materially improved at this point, so a CB may make more sense, but I do think it's his inability to dribble and move with the ball that has been his undoing thus far for us. At this point Micah may be a slightly better option for the weekend, but Micah suffers from many of the same issues Boateng does in defense, in that he struggles to really latch onto the crossing player and deny the cross. I'd probably be inclined to stick with Boateng, who at least has been playing regular first team football.
