Boateng

Apart from a couple of stray passes (that didn't do any damage) he was pretty good. He looked assured and comfortable and had the air of someone who's confident in what he's doing.
To say he was bad against Ghana is unfair, I think. The German team itself didn't play great in that game if I remember correctly, but I thought he gave a good account of himself.

You've also got to remember not only was he out of position but he was up against a very good side today.

I mean, FFS! He hasn't even pulled on a City shirt yet and the knives are already being sharpened.

I think we're going to start like this if we get who we want:

Kolarov (LB) - Kompany (CB) - Luiz (CB) - Boateng (RB)

Main subs: Toure (CB), Bridge (LB), Lescott (CB or LB), Zabaleta (RB or DM), Micah or Ned (if either stay)

Honestly not sure if we need BOTH Kolarov and Luiz. Luiz's secondary position is left-back which Kolarov plays and we will already have plenty of CB strength (Kompany, Boateng, Lescott, Toure, Micah/Ned if they stay, even Boyata). To me, what we have - Lescott and Kompany - is a strong CB pairing but Lescott's fitness is a question mark. But what do I know, Bobby Manc has his plan I'm sure and maybe the clearout will be more intense than we expect.

Have you seen the amount of cover he gets behind him,he was very rarely left 1 to 1,good player without a doubt but those germans around him are very good.
Im more impressed that he played in the WC q/finals in a position that is totally new to him.
Its not his position L/B
He is well acquainted with both fullback positions. But you're right in that he's best fielded as a CB.

One of my red mates agreed today that Boateng looked accomplished today.
I like the fact he appears to be comfortable anywhere along the back - definitely an asset

Well, he didn't play LB at all in the 09/10 season if ever.
This was one of Löw's brilliant crazy ideas for this world-cup and it's been working.

He played almost exclusively as fullback until the 09/10 season. 07/08 on both sides equally, and 08/09 (after the acquisition of Aogo) mostly as RB, which also suits him better, being primarily right-footed.
