The fact that unions are vilified by people like Paxman make their contribution more relevant. I've had good and bad experiences with representation, I'd mostly put that down to bad reps, but there is no denying their use over the years - they have struggled to shake the militant labels from 30 years ago. Fantastic smear job that was.

£145,000 seems completely fair enough to me, for someone running a union that size.

I'm not going to say who - but I am reasonably close the leader of one of the UK's bigger unions - and £145k is about the rate for the job. They are effectively CEO of a relatively large multi million organisation - with a large and complex workforce and challenging financial structures. A private sector equivalent organisation would pay considerably more than the present Trade Union establishment earn. I know we make comparisons with the cabinet (whom I certainly don't think are over paid - perhaps with the exception of Michael Gove - who shouldn't be paid at all) but the likes of Osbourne and Cameron make an awful lot more than he headline wage we see published.

I missed out the word Rank before hypocrisy, as ever those that gleefully jumped on Maggies grave cannot see past their own hypocrisy as they spew forth the platitudes for Bob Crowe and expect those of us that admired Maggie not to take umbrage when they demand respect following his death..!

Do you not realise how badly you Maggie lovers whinged and moaned like little bitches over that. You're still fucking doing it. Pot, kettle, black comes to mind when casting aspersions of hypocrisy from the precious Thatcherites. Take a leaf out of Maggie's book and grow a pair.

The way some on here behaved when she died was a fucking disgrace and warranted the response it received from eunuchs like me. There is no pot and kettle analogy here, I have never acted that way when a political figure with opposing political views becomes Ill, as in TB's case or upon the death of Crowe.
