Fans' favourite Valeri Bojinov insists that he wants to stay at the City of Manchester Stadium - but he will seek a meeting with Mark Hughes to discover where he stands in the manager's pecking order next season.

Bulgaria striker Boji recovered from an injury-ravaged season to score at Tottenham in the final away match of the Premier League campaign before leading the attack in the World Cup qualifier against Republic of Ireland.

But the former Fiorentina prospect signed by Sven Goran Eriksson sees daily mounting speculation that Hughes is in the market for more than one quality goalscorer whose arrival would threaten Bojinov's chance of playing.

Boji said: "I enjoy being here, and I'm very happy with City because they stood by me through injury. I would like to stay, and if I can I will, but you can't guarantee you will play and next season is very important for me."

He has been linked with an eventual return to Serie A, and he added: "As they say, anything is possible. I don't think any player stays at one club forever. I respect the team but I have questions I will have to ask the gaffer."

The powerful 23-year-old striker, who ruptured his achilles warming up for the opening match at Aston Villa, is desperate to put last season behind him - and keen to repay Blues fans for their unwavering support.

He said: "That was a big injury, but I'm better now. You want to play more games but that depends on the boss. I played 11 games and I enjoyed them, but I need to stay clear of injury, and I need a very good pre-season.

"Getting the goal at Tottenham was important to me. It was very difficult not to be training and not to be with the team. Every striker loves to score, so I was happy with the goal but not the result. I thought I'd get the winner."

I love the Boj...would love him to stay, i reckon he could be awesome next season

Well he'd better join up with Ireland this summer then! He looked majorly unfit for Bulgaria the other day so it's clear he still needs to put some major work in if he is to be good enough to command a regular place in the first team next season.

Can't really argue with what he's saying, but if I was him I'd be more than a little concerned with my first team prospects for next season. If, as rumoured, we're going to be signing two front line strikers, and Bellamy gets himself fit, then Bojinov will be 4th choice at best.

Think it's more of a worry weather the lad will be given the chance to prove himself at the club, As others have said a fully fit VB will be a more than useful addition to the squad and there's no doubting the lad's ability and desire to prove himself with us. Still has a lot of hard work ahead of him pre-season and I really hope he gets the chance his desire deserves.

Rooney? Come on mate, don't be silly. He's not fit to lace Rooney's boots. Rooney has it all and it was obvious when he was about 18. Strength, agression, intelligence, goals.
You ever see Bojinov when he was 18? I did, and he was awesome, a clone of Rooney.

Give him time, and you will see what a class player he is, at 18 he was rated a lot higher in Italy than Rooney was when he was 18. The fact Rooney is English makes him a gizzillion times better than he is in the eyes of the media

It is world cup year this is why all players need to be playing
If Joe Hart is going to the world cup he needs to go on loan or move it is the same for Bojinov
I don't think Bulgaria will make it in the world cup. The only way we can make it, is by Ireland losing 2-3 games and Bulgaria beating Italy... But that will get is us in second place... :(
