When I first attended Burnden Park, not only was there a good crowd, but the attendance was swelled by the driver and the firemen of the railway engine which they parked at the open end. Ah yes jumpers for goal posts.
Edit PS. And here it is.

They don't make them like that anymore, thank god. There was actually an old film (The Love Match I think it was called) where Arthur Askey, playing an engine driver did exactly that, and drove his train at excessive speed to be there on time. (But it was supposed to be City v United.)
Best line from the film, in the magistrates court accused of throwing a pie at the ref. "Football match? It were City and United!" Worth watching if you can find it, corny but a real period piece.
Remember when I first went I was stood at that end 64/64 we got beat 4-0 think Wynn Davies scored 2 for Bolton, old 2nd Division game Dowd in goal for us.When I first attended Burnden Park, not only was there a good crowd, but the attendance was swelled by the driver and the firemen of the railway engine which they parked at the open end. After mentioning "A Kind Of Loving" earlier today,I have just noticed that it is on TV tonight."A Kind Of Loving" is set in 1960s Bolton and Alan Bates and James Bolam attend a Bolton game at Burnden Park.
Not sure who the opposition was though,or the result of the game.
It would take more than a few chanted songs to offend me sunshine. Not good to see us becoming gratuitously snide about clubs who have fallen on hard times. It’s just arrogant.
We had a huge stroke of luck getting our owners. They were unlucky getting theirs.
As for attendances, compare the two clubs’ histories and local populations.
Finally, OP, if you’re mortally offended by a routine piss-take chant, maybe football’s not for you.
