Bono

His, and the bands, body of work stands up to any great rock acts. Any of them.
He's a bit tiresome, but at least he's being tiresome trying to make stuff in the world a little bit better.
I have no problem people slagging him off, you can't be everything to everyone. However, before you slag off one of the all time great songwriters, I'd just like to hear a little bit of your own songwriting backlog, for reference. Thanks.
Mate they're the biggest corporate shell of a band of all time (not including first few albums) I very much doubt bono has written a song in years

Never been a fan of him as a person (much prefer Larry who just keeps his mouth shut and stays out of the public eye) but when it comes to pure musical talent his lyrics and singing on One are up with the very best imo. That’s just timeless stuff.

Familiarity breeds contempt, as they say.
Their body of work is so recognisable that is is dismissed off handedly as "shite" or "corporate"
Their shows are less personal because of the size. I stopped watching them after zooropa. Don't like the mass production of any shows that size. I stick to listening at home, and going to other small shows instead.
But their written body of work is extraordinary.

Back in their day, one of the best upto the early 2000’s.
Saw them at G-Mex in early nineties, the Zooropa tour and they were brilliant.
Also had Kraftwerk supporting who were fantastic and Public Enemy who were atrocious

Milton Keynes Bowl in ‘84 (Could have been ‘85) I wasn’t really a fan but a mate had a spare ticket so I went.. Pissed down the whole day but when U2 hit the first note the rain stopped.. When they played the last note the rain started again..

I thought they were superb

Saw them on the joshua tree tour in late 80’s they were amazing, loved the earlier stuff before that as well, before they went all weird, but fair play to them for the longevity

Were the biggest band in the world den dey weren't.

Some great tunes back in the day. Saw them at the Etihad supported by snow patrol. Was so pissed by the time they got on don't remember much.
Lost interest in them after achtung baby which was the last good thing they did imho.

I have all their early Albums up until Zooropa. Can't say I've listened to any of them in over 20 years.
Very much a band of the time.

True... But like I say after s certain point it looses it's soul
They wrote many classics and put on crazy shows no doubt

Not sure if it’s hate for Bono. You‘re going to turn a lot of fans in such a long time frame with the extreme shifts from post punk to political to commercial to evangelical and then pop/glam rock around zooropa.

far too much Christian imagery in the lyrics for me on his later stuff which is ok for his personal background but some of it felt preachy, I always expected to him come on stage in the Popemobile.
October was the ultimate Christian rock album.
