Booing the Champions League Anthem

There’s probably a futility to it all, but can see why people want to voice their disapproval of UEFA and this is the most public way of doing it. Whether it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy, and we end up getting treated even more shabbily by them, who knows? It would probably happen regardless tbh. I don’t really bother booing it myself any more, but defend the right of others to do so if they wish.
 
Having always been there I don’t actually know how it comes over on tv. The PA system is that loud I assume it mostly gets drowned out. Can’t be arsed booing anymore... maybe the ****s at UEFA have ground me down! I’ve had enough of it now anyway after last night and the previous game so I won’t be partaking next season

These UEFA prick refs think we have come to watch them – fuck you - they should be fucking invisible like those other useless fucking pricks behind each goal. This is happening every season now, most games...decisions being made by UEFA appointed corrupt/incompetent officials that as a fan of 20 years+ watching live football I just cannot understand. It has now become norm and so predictable.....I love my football but being honest I have no real love for these games or UEFA European football in the current format with its management of the game e.g. punishment for clubs with racist fans. UEFA can fuck right off. Next season I will be watching games in the pub but I will still be booing that fucking anthem and all it stands for!

Good post, and thanks for saving me 5 minutes typing out very similar, if not identical, comments.

I would however add, I hate the corrupt draws and their utter predictability (what possible reason could there be for having a PRACTICE DRAW ffs). And I hate the inevitability of getting stiffed on the night by corrupt officials - we all know it's going to happen yet still moan about it afterwards.

Well no longer for me. I'll still be moaning about it, but it won't be costing me £70 every time, and I won't have to explain to my 9 year old son why the ref keeps getting things wrong (how do you explain to a kid that it's deliberate without confusing them and ruining it all for them).

The way they treat city in this competition will not change, but at least by booing we are showing that we know what they are doing and why they are doing it.
If we ever win this cup...which is so unlikely as to be negligible, the very next chumps league game I will happily boo again.
If it was a marriage it would be annulled under unreasonable behaviour and irreconcilable differences.

Don't often comment on here but read this and it PERFECTLY sums it up for me. Great Post Blue. Realise the money and prestige of the competition are important to the owners, but the whole Champs League set up does very little for me.
 
There are actually people that boo the anthem with no idea how it started. It served a purpose for a while to show our disapproval to sanctions that had wrongly been placed against us. People constantly question if all the wrong decisions we get in the games are because UEFA do not want us in their competition. Well lets be honest that is probably the case. Would they really want a club whose fans (as they see it) disrespect the anthem in the show piece game I would think not. Time to get over it is done and gone because we have to all be intelligent enough to realise it will not achieve anything.
 
The owner, the management and the players trying their damnedest to win this competition, only to be shackled by spoilt booing brats. Grow up for fucks sake!
 
Time to move on. The club, and us, need to do whatever is needed to win this competition, otherwise why bother entering at all?

We got some great atmospheres going in the last two games, let's put our efforts into that. Organise a Poznan for the anthem, would be my suggestion.

Came off the cup scheme last season, even more corrupt than the PL, game stinks. I love City & love watching them and won’t relinquish my ST in 119; but only because I love the people I stand and chat with - game I believe has been bent since at least 1992, only now we are being exposed to it more as we upset the apple cart of the old G14 - this and last season has seen staggeringly corrupt decision making against us which we have challenged without success, I just wish there were a few journalists out there with the balls to start digging as it surely can’t be too difficult to connect the dots

I agree, for me I think booing the anthem is embarassing now. It had its time, and rightly so, but let's move on and just get behind the team instead of trying to make a point to those running the competition our owner desperately wants to win.

I wonder what Sheikh Mansour and Khaldoon et al make of the booing? The last thing they want for us is more UEFA sanctions and dodgy draws, but if we continue to antagonise UEFA it'll get harder to win, not fairer on us.

We could have made big strides this season with our delightful and exciting style of play, a step towards being part of UEFA's cartel and all the favourable decisions that entails. Many Blues might hate UEFA but I'm pretty sure we'd all love to see Vinny lift the trophy after beating Madrid or someone in a showpiece final. Players like Aguero and David Silva deserve a winners' medal too.
 
It's a pointless act, it doesn't add anything positive or 'stick it to the man'. Instead of booing, just drown it out with chanting and supporting the team. But unfortunately it's never going to stop now, no matter what happens.

I feel exactly the same.

Just to add because I think these are the main reasons for the booing: UEFA tolerates racism! We played at Porto and Yaya and Balotelli were subject to monkey chants however City got a bigger fine for having six players booked by that shit Turkish ref (I think at a push two were bookings!) and got more column inches in the paper because we chanted “you’re not incredible” at Hulk. Moscow fans subjected Yaya to more monkey chants and when Moscow had fans banned for the next season, they somehow had fans in the ground against City and Bayern despite City and Bayern fans not being allowed to travel. Then from previous monkey chanting Dynamo Kiev were told they had to play their Ro16 game behind closed doors but when they pulled City out of the bag in the Ro16 they were allowed their fans back again!

Also this constant rule changing of seeding.
Now even adding previous CL/UEFA success to club’s seeding points to keep clubs like Liverpool/United/AC Milan/Inter/Ajax etc. (who just happen to be old G-14 clubs, funny that eh?), who have been shit for ages and haven’t been in the CL much this decade, up the seeding charts when draws are made to make their draws easier when they don’t deserve it.

And how can we forget FFPR. Once that was thrown out they are now coming back with a second coming of it to hinder us again.

Plus we are not the only club who boo the CL anthem... Barcelona also do because they were fined for displaying Catalan flags during a game which was said to be a political statement (even though they display Catalan flags at all games, have the Catalan flag in their badge and even have Catalan flag as their away kit every few season!)
Legia Warsaw, Atlético Madrid, Benfica fans have all boo’d or displayed flags against them at some point
