Bookies affordability checks - Big Brother wants to see your bank statements !

It's not as simple as just an affordability check, if it was these checks would be done before you are allowed to open an account and make any deposit.
You'll find these bastards trying to pull the rug as soon as you start winning.
I had a similar problem with Livescorebet, no problem opening an account, depositing money and losing but as soon as I had a win and tried to make a withdrawal, not even trying to withdraw all my balance, the drawbridge came down and I had to verify my account.
I did as I have nothing to hide but after providing what they asked it 'apparently' failed their security checks and they asked for more evidence which I supplied, by now they had copies of my passport, driving license, bank statements from all my bank accounts, utility bills and even NHS letters addressed to me , I'm not in the best of health currently so these were very personal.
Even so it was not enough as every time I got the generic reply they have failed their security check with no explanation why. I actually began to feel violated.

In the end they asked me to notarise the documents, which means taking them to a notary of a list they supply which would have cost me around £100 per document, I asked could I get them verified at the post office which was a lot cheaper but they said no.
There was no way I was going to pay that amount which wouldn't even cover the money I was owed, which obviously they knew, more so knowing they could still come back to me saying again they have failed their security with no explanation or comeback, so in the end it wasn't worth the stress so I've just let it go, my health comes first.
Like I said this could have all been avoided if they had done the checks first before accepting my money that's why this bullshit needs stopping.

It's not just me, here's another example of what's going on...

That is absolutely outrageous!
Did you contact IBAS?

They're not signed up with IBAS, they use eCOGRA who apparently are as much use as a chocolate fireguard.
There's also a 3 step complaints procedure you have to go through before you can contact them.
I'm currently stuck on step 2 and can go no further until I get my documents notarised, which as I've explained I'm not prepared to do.

Affordability checks are an attack on our civil liberties

Affordability checks have become such a common feature of gambling for many that it is easy to forget just what an unprecedented attack on our basic freedoms they are. Never before has a British government attempted to interfere in how individuals spend their own money. It is hard to think of a more objectionable real-world example of the 'nanny state' than the government insisting on financial checks for those deemed to be spending too much of their own money.
Read that and then read it again within the context.of FFP and individuals prepared.to spend their own money

Absolutely twats and it’s a disgrace the bent government etc are allowing them to get away with. I’ve seen countless similar things with them for months.

So what happens if you get a nice win, and try to withdraw your money but they ask for bank statements?
What if they see something on your statement that they don't like? Can they get out of paying you out? Do they close your account and take your remaining balance off you?

I've pretty much only bet with Bet365 for the last 10-15 years. I keep track of all my bets, like most punters I'm down overall but have had a few good wins and never had any problems getting bets on or withdrawing money

365 are decent regarding KYC it is the smaller bookies that make you jump through hoops to get money out. A few years back bookies were told by the gambling commission to do all their checks before a customer deposited, but the wording was to open to interpretation so they still take the piss on withdrawals. I miss making the money match betting but it's on its arse now anyway and the stress of KYC was awful especially if you had a couple of grand stuck in an account!
