Bookies affordability checks - Big Brother wants to see your bank statements !

On a personal level I’d hope someone would stop serving an alcoholic drinking himself to death if the signs were there. That’s all.
Totally agree mate, I'd do the same if it was a mate, and I'd hope it was reciprocated.

However, this doesn't feel like a friend trying to do you a favour, does it?

I get what you're saying, but I promise you that my £4 acca is normally dead and buried way before I could finish a pint.

Ha depends on what acca youre having.

If you can afford 4 quid, pick about 12 teams to score 1 or 2 goals then it will last 90 min.
£4 will clear 100. 2 hours of fun for £4… bargain.

Haha yeah true!

My experience will tell you that if I chose 12 teams, 11 of them would be 0-0 at half time, despite their being goals in every other game in that division!

Its not banned? I am confused, If people have the money they can gamble.
Thats the point they want to see your pay slips and bank accounts and then decide what u can afford to gamble. When i win big i withdraw then transfer 1/2 to my savings account and use the rest to bet with. The only person who decides if i can have a fiver, tenner 20,50,100,200 on should be me.

Right so do it differently. There's always a way around it to show how much you have in your accoount.

But there's a ppandemic of gullible people losing everything they got, people losing money to gambling, they're bringing the industry down, these regulations are there to stop those people spending stupid. Surely thats a good thing?

I'm not sure the regulations will stop a compulsive gambler with issues Gordon.

What I don't understand is why same effort isn't applied to controlling casinos, slots and online poker/bingo etc.

I think these areas have a bigger problem with addiction than racing and football.

Does anybody have a breakdown of the gambling industry and where the problem gambling lies?

Why should i be penalised for weak minded fuckers.

Weak minded aye.
Another who doesn’t understand addiction.
I don't think it's a case of not understanding..........it's more of a case trying to legislate to try and make life safe and secure for everybody in society.

First, it won't succeed in doing that in this case, because gamblers will always gamble.

Second, there has to be a point where people acknowledge and take responsibilities for their own issues. Human personalities are all different.

Why should I be deprived of enjoying something I like to do, just because a minority can't control their own problems. There should of course be help available for those that wish to address it once they acknowledge they have a problem. Making it more difficult won't stop them until they do, much like somebody who smokes or drinks too much.
