booking next years holidays with brexit coming

Whatever preparations are made, and I'm sure companies will have some contingency plans, the introduction of customs checks on all European imports will have a huge impact unless the government were to invest multiple billions on the infrastructure to cope with it. Even if they did that, there would be no getting around the increased costs to industry and the consequent price rises for many goods.

They don't do customs checks on all non-EU imports, they just do targeted checks. It wouldn't be much different, particularly with a pre-disposition for acceptance.

I understand your point of view - but it all sounds part of wishing that Brexit would go away.

As people realise that it is indeed going to happen and therefore we have to plan to deal with the implications of whatever deal the EU is/ is not willing to enter into - then people will become more accepting of things and look forwards.

Anyway that is more for the Brexit thread.

It will be different. And if there is no pre-disposition for acceptance it will be hell of a difference. Have you met the French? :)

Seriously if the manpower and infrastructure is not in place to handle the increased volume of checks then there will be problems. This applies to both sides. Like everything if you prepare and invest properly for something you can keep it down to a minimum but no one has if only because both sides don’t want to commit too much investment which will likely turn out to be wasted.

Oh God, I wasn't disagreeing about that! Just that the line some trot out that there'll be chaos as every single vehicle and container is checked is nonsense.

Good to know.
Oh sorry to ask - your knowledge on the subject is?

Common sense, you're hankering on a legal technicality that will never see the light of day.
As someone already said in this thread, there are many 'technicalities' but painting them as a consequence of Brexit is nonsense as they simply won't happen.

I can see this gets you all excited though and a chance to bang your doomsday drum, so don't let logic get in the way of that.
