Boooom

Well you never know with transfers as there have been a few that we've been very close to doing but that have fallen through at the last minute for one reason or another. But it wouldn't come as a shock if we got Gundogan, Laporte & Stones as all these appear to be pretty well done. Sane also seems to have been well trailed. None of these appear to be either/or buys, so it's not like it's one of Laporte or Stones. That's £140-150m for starters.

We know about Pogba, who'd probably cost us something close to £100m plus there appears to be another very big deal in the pipeline that we've been working on intensively for a while. If we pull off just one of those we could be looking at £250-300m and £400m if we pull off both. And then there's the left back position with Danny Rose in possibly in the frame. So that's another £35m or so at a guess.

It seems that the club are prepared to sanction that level of spend as they weren't happy with last season (and that's being kind) plus I'd guess they feel they need to give Pep the best possible chance of success. There could be a lot of competition for those top four spots next season and we not only have to be there but have to leave any opposition trailing in our wake.

Everyone has been alluding to this othe big deal for the last week or so but no one appears to want to say who it is, other than the speculation about Aubemiang (can't see it myself) I have no idea who it may be.

Care to fill us in ;-)

This ^.
We cannot expect a group of more than 16/17 quality first team "starters", with the rest made up from emerging talent or talented new purchases.
There's got to be a limit in mind.
We're restricted by squad size rules anyway for both the PL & CL. 17 foreign players, up to 4 association trained and at least 4 club trained.

Association trained players at the moment are Hart, Sterling, Clichy & Delph. Stones and Rose coming in would mean two of those being excluded from one or both squads, with the latter two being the obvious candidates. Otherwise would probably be sold.

I see us bringing in Laporte at the back in at the expense of Mangala but we'd keep Sagna and possibly Zabaleta unless we can get a right back. Kolarov would have to go and Angelino would be back up to Rose.

I'm midfield I'd see at least two of Pogba, Gundogan and possibly one other coming in. If it's just the two then I reckon Toure will be out but we might keep Fernando. If it's three then it would be Fernando or possibly Navas out.

Up front, I think there will be two additions alongside Aguero, with Iheanacho now being classed as club trained.

So we'd have one foreign goalkeeper, 5 foreign defenders, 8 foreign midfielders and 3 foreign forwards.

Pogba will class as homegrown does he not ?

It's at least 4 club trained, then at least the number of association trained players to take your home grown quota to at least 8. The remaining 17 slots are free slots that can be taken by foreign or association players (which, admittedly will probably be foreign).

But buying Stones and Rose just means we have to get rid of some players, not necessarily home grown players.

Yes of course you're right. It's 17 free players rather than 17 foreign.

Soriano's comments about the squad size refers to Barca 2008 and is taken from a book he wrote many moons ago.
Exactly. The amount of people and articles taken in by that tweet repeating those comments a week or back is amazing.

I don't think that will be a problem. Remember that Kelechi and Denayer will qualify for club trained. And we have Navas, Zabba/Sagna, Nasri, Bony, Kolarov, Fernando, Yaya, Delph, Demi, Mangala, Caballero. All players who either will leave or could leave.

Only problem could be selling some of them. But i think all of those players would be up for sale for the right offer.

You could have 21 association trained players if you wanted.

Is there a definite interest in Danny Rose, because he's much better than what we have?
The team really does need freshening up and bringing the average age down too, so I could see the likes of Navas, Toure, Zaba and Fernando going.
Wouldn't be too miffed if Delph had to drop out of one of the squads, it's not as if he's been available for selection every week.
Sell him if need be.

People talk about bringing the average age of our players down yet never mention getting rid of one of the oldest players in the squad some even suggest he stays putting him in front of zabbaleta? This is just can't get my head around..
It would be bye bye Sagna if any were to leave IMHO...

100% This, and he can take Clichy along for the ride too. Zaba would stay for me, would make a much better DM than Fernando, in my opinion.
