Can remember going to a Record Fair in manchester from time to time ('trans
-pennine'??); recall it being held in a basement somewhere near Piccadilly Gardens.
(btw, anyone else used to get their regular vinyl from Yanks or Bostocks in the arndale? Yanks was cheapest by far).

I used to go to that record fair in the basement, that was when record fairs were a big thing. Nowadays theyre usually held at Saschas hotel, been to a few with BTH and you can get round them in about 15minutes flat. It's nearly all cd's these days but if you look hard enough you can still find the odd treasure.

I spent far too many hours in Yanks absolutely loved the place with the cut off corners and the A,B,C coded lp's. Oh to be able to go back in time and enjoy those moments of pleasure again.

Ha ha , yes, the cuts in the corner, I remember now!

The excitement of getting back home and listening to Farewell To Kings and the rest for the first time... You never knew really what you were going to get, save the odd tune you might have heard at a mates house or on Tommy Vance

The first Rush boot I bought was from a "Super Record Fair" at the G-Mex in the 90's on double cd entitled "Every Soul a Battlefield"

A soundboard recording in stunning quality, track list sensational including side one of "2112" which is just 20 minutes of quality, in fact I've dug it out and I'm listening to it now!! What a band!!

Black Sedan was a different one.
The Guy you are thinking about was called George Davenport.
Specialised mostly in Country and early Rock but sold anything.
The Man is a bit of a legend in Manchester Record scene, but bankrupt a few times.
Last I heard he had about a million albums and was looking for a home for them.

Yeah, Black Sedan was in the same precinct bit as Gordon's Records and The Phoenix.

Davvy's shop, Pandemonium was above Johnny Roadhouse's and he moved, bizarrely to Old Church St, Newton Heaht, near the junction of Oldham Rd. In what used to be the old Co-Op department store.

Even when it was 'open' it rarely was, and as with his old shop, he didn't really ever like selling any of his vinyl....''I'll do you a tape of it for two quid'' he used to nearly always say.

As far as I am aware, that million plus albums are still locked in that shop...

Hey Trick I did say it was pandomonium further up the thread. Don't be going stealing the limelight now ;-)

Heard a Queen bootleg in The Phoenix around 1981 once, tried everywhere to get it, Big Steve the DJ wouldn't let me lend it though.

Do you know Big Steve died a couple of years ago?

Very freaky you mentioned Farewell to Kings mate as it was in Yanks at something like 97p and I only had 50p on me which was my bus fare home. Walking back to Piccadilly I bumped into a girl I knew and asked her to lend me 50p. I went back and got it and ended up walking 5miles home. Why the fuck I didn't ask to borrow a pound i'll never know but it just didnt occur to me hahaha. Cinderella Man, Madrigal and Xanadu made up for the walk though ;-)

I can imagine ;)

First time you heard Xanadu really was a wtf moment wasnt it? Made for headphones
I can recall being so blown away that I had to hunt down Hemispheres the very next visit to town - side 2 of which I really loved staright away - side one was a harder sell ;-)

Yes hahaha headphones for sure along with The Wall and The Final Cut to get all the bits going on between tracks.

Hemispheres indeed was a tough side one but once I got it I absolutely loved it. It's not often on my turntable these days but when it gets dusted off it's immensely pleasurable. Got it on picture disc and red vinyl as well as the normal black vinyl.

Thats the feller,he made you a brew while recording what you wanted onto tape for two quid..he had loads of Dylan and springsteen stuff i was into.I dont know how the floors never gave way with the weight of records and crap he had up there.

I spent a small fortune on a couple of Stevie Ray Vaughan bootleg cds from a place that was part of the underground in the (pre-bomb) Corn Exchange....both absolute tosh in quality and tracks from both eventually re-surfaced, and re-polished, on the SRV box-set.

And Blue2112? have you ever tried seeing how much your old pic-discs go for?

I had a look at an old Marillion 12" picture disc of Market Square Heroes that I've got somewhere and it's going for in excess of £100 on some sites.

Wow that is mental, Ive got loads of marillion stuff on picture disc, even got a Japanese copy of script unopened in its original sealed plastic. Same for loads of Kate Bush stuff ive bought over the years, ive never opened them and kept them ultra mint condition.
