Boring, boring City

I hate to use Spurs as an example but if you look at them against the current European champions, that should be how we want to play like!

They had:

Lennon VDV Bale
Crouch

That attacking line murdered Inter and Maicon "the world's greatest right back" is still trying to treat his new arsehole!

Imagine if we lined up with:

SWP/Milner Silva AJ
Tevez

(Even better if it was AJ and Bellers as the wingers.)

We'd frighten teams up and down the country and in Europe and be a must better team to watch, scoring goals and gaining points.

We had AJ and Bellamy playing as wide players last seson at times. They are both talented players but in Bellamys case he didn't perform well enough in the second half of last season to suggest he'd be the answer to our supposed problems. For all Spurs good work on Tuesday and their attacking intent they still find themselves behind us in the table

How we set up in midfield is crucial to the tempo / style we want to play.

I wonder what sort of team someone like Redknapp would send out from our squad of players...?

..probably AJ / Milner / Toure / Silva in midfield.... with Carlos / Ade up front.
(or sometimes Silva played just behind one up front like Van der Vaart).

1) Our manager's instincts are more cautious than we are used to (+ also some of his "rivals")

2) Some players actually benefit from having more asked of them.
Look at Modric in central midfield for Spurs: all over the pitch with tremendous work-rate despite being portrayed as a "luxury" player.

I have seen enough of Silva to suggest that he is good enough to be a key player for us... but that he can also handle himself in more "competitive" areas of the pitch as well as in the final third.

Against weaker teams at home we can lose the "De Jong / Barry / Yaya" comfort blanket and set up as follows: (4-2-1-3)
Hart
Boateng Kolo VK Kolarov
Milner Yaya
Silva
AJ Tevez Balotelli.

Yes... I know it looks attacking... but when a game gets stretched...the advantage of having the better players kicks in.

A lot of folks on here in September were saying we're be playing beautiful possession football this season. Unfortunately the likes of Newcastle, Blackpool & Wolves have outplayed us for long spells. Not a good sign.

I'd like to see Mancini go for it a bit more which would mean dropping one of his beloved duo - Yaya & Barry.

I have to say I agree with a lot of what's been said. We take to the pitch and I'm full of optimism but once the game settles in it almost looks like a game of who's going to get a lucky break first. We don't seem to be able to dominate and really pour pressure on for any sustained length of time.

I appreciate that the team are still finding their feet but they look like tethered men out there. Only Silva and Tevez seem to be playing with freedom at times. I hope that with Kolarov and Boeteng at LB and RB things might improve and I think we can all see that Silva is a very exciting and potentially match winning player (Build a team round him I say).

If I was a fan of another club I wouldn't look forward to watching one of our games, we only do because we have a vested interest in the outcome. It's certainly not pretty to watch and seems to be without shape.

Lets hope for a massive improvement in the next two games.

You admit we've been lucky to win some games, don't you realise we've been very unlucky to lose/not win some as well?

No, the ones we've lost/drawn we've not deserved to win (barring possibly the Arsenal one), I just don't think we've played well enough to expect any better than we've got, in fact we've deserved worse. The Newcastle and Blackpool ones we definitely didn't deserve to win as has been stated. So far in the league I've thought we played well against Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal, and that's it. Brief moments in others and first half against Sunderland wasn't bad.

I said this the other day, before even the Wolves game.

I don't care what anyone says, we weren't unlucky against Wolves & Sunderland. They were both all over us in the 2nd half.

So you think Tevez missing that open goal should be discounted? That last minute penalty? 10 men for 85 mins against Arse? Or that Hart Howler? Boyata tonight?

Its like when there's negative stories in the press most blues will say its bollox but when its a positive story it must be true. When we win its lucky but when we lose luck's got nothing to do with it and we're crap. Depends on what you want to believe really.

Your talking about human error, on general play this season we've been very disappointing barring the odd game.
