Bought A Bicycle - Tips And Advice, Please...

Will only be riding on dry days and the rides are only going to be leisurely rather than for fitness, that can be a side-positive. Mainly doing it to save money on petrol and to use my car less for green reasons (I’m getting more green conscious as I get older).

Also, if cycling wear is advisable, is there cycling clothing available that isn’t the tight Lycra stuff (that look isn’t for me at all!)? And where’s the best place to get it from?
It's windy days you want to avoid, cycling in the rain can be good fun. I use to track my time going to work and back and always had the quickest times when it was wet. But gusty weather on a road, no thanks.

As for Lycra, it's well worth it. You might get jock itch if you try normal clothing and do a fair amount of miles. You could wear a loose pair of shorts over the cycling shorts or there are some that look like ordinary shorts with the padding sewn in. https://road.cc/content/buyers-guide/261532-10-pairs-cycling-shorts-dont-look-cycling-shorts.

An old football shirt is okay up top if you don't want the full monty. City's new 3rd kit will be fairly visible in traffic!

Home insurance usually gives public liability cover as well
Hmm, I'd be checking up on that, personally. Perhaps within the home, but outside the property I'd check as I see no specific mention of it in my current policy. Not to mention the excess, the increase in premiums after a claim, the fact you'll be dealing with non-cycling people etc. Would it cover side-swiping a wing mirror off a mercedes or jaguar, for instance, that might cost £500+ to replace?

That’s almost as bad as those cyclists who undertake you in slow moving traffic blissfully unaware that you have your left indicator on.

Absolutely. I try my best to be a sensible cyclist, and in these scenarios don't put myself in danger and always try and be in a position where drivers can see me in their mirrors.

There are drivers who will overtake, and then pull right over into the curb at the traffic lights so you can't undertake them.

Jock itch? Isn't he playing at Wimbledon this year?
