Bournemouth (A) - FA Cup | Post Match Thread

Rodri shouldnt be anywhere near a competative game until summer holidays...

you cant rush him back just to try and salvage the season.....let the ones who have got us to where we are dig us out (if they can)
I was half joking. I think we’ll see him before the end of the season, he will be wanting to be ready for the Club World Cup.

I disagree with you on the 1st half. We were really competitive in the 1st half but didn't take our chances.

Agree with your comment about O'Reilly. I have been a bit disappointed with Pep that he hasn't used him more earlier but he was so impressive today in such a big game that we can say he has arrived

I can't understand him not playing when we've been crying out for pace, energy and physicality in midfield.

We were the better team , and proved it today. Could say our poor run started with a defeat to Bournemouth, so hopefully this is a sign of us wanting to right some wrongs and salvage something from the season.

First half was very frustrating, we were on top until one mistake and a goal. Afterwards we shrunk into ourselves maybe feeling sorry for the penalty miss and so on. Became very slow and ponderous, and it became important that we didn't shoot ourselves in the other foot too and go in two down. Even Bernie was hoofing it up to nobody under little pressure, seems our heads go when the chips are down. But, even then Bournemouth were hardly on top, it was more us misfiring.

Second half was much, much better, literally from the kick off. Wanted it. Got it.

Nico o Reilly obviously was a game changer, but a lot can be said for the influence of Kev and Ilkay today too. Grealish still has quality, not sure why he isn't getting more game time but his ability was there for all to see. Held it up so well, moved us forward, took care of the ball, you could see Bournemouth didn't enjoy him being on the field. I do wonder if now is the time for a Grealish and O Reilly left sided partnership, with Jack having the experience to know when and how to play it, and Nico having the athleticism. Yes it means dropping Doku or Savinho but there's more than one way to skin a full back.

Hard to believe there are just 4 points between us in the league, Bournemouth looked inferior on their own turf for large parts of the game and I am hoping that shows where we are now compared to 12 weeks ago. Yes they're missing a few players, but we've hardly had an easy time of it either.

Just hope Haaland is ok. Marmoush should be fine to help us overcome Leicester midweek but I want the big man back for raggy time.

Real shame we can't rush Rodri back, I have a feeling we're not a million miles off where we need to be, and he'd bring the confidence and reassurance right now. But no way we can chance him, maybe not even until summer.

Yup. Don’t panic, guys, we are not far away when we up the tempo.

I hope Gundy isn't drug tested. What a second half performance from him. We looked something approaching ourselves in the second half. Oh, btw, don't drug test Kev either.

Weird what proper international break does. He looked refreshed and, more importantly, motivated to run. He's still slow but he competed and was valuable winning balls back and keeping possession. Missing that little bit in the final third but hard to complain.

For those of you who were throwing the shit at Pep before a fucking ball was kicked, at the start of the game and then going 1-0 down and claiming he should "fuck off from the club" you are an embarrassment to be called a City fan.
The bloke made the changes at half time and what a great performance in that second half, so well done to Pep and the lads for seeing us off to Wembley yet again.
As for the wet fannies ... well !!

Mine either. Hes been a good creative outlet though but now we know Oreilly can do that too so we can move Gvardiol to cb. He dominated there second half. I’m surprised he hasn’t been used in midfield either
Tbf with the goals he’s scored and how dangerous he’s been going forward there’s times this season where I’d have played him as a winger or up front.

Who was it pal?
It was Me. He took off last month's player of the month because he was on a yellow. O Reilly shouldn't have to come on , he has impressed every time he's had a chance this season. Pep got the starting 11 wrong for the umpteenth time this season. And while it wasn't the worst first half this season , it was far to pedestrian with a host of passengers. To his credit he got a much better response second half when we played more direct and used O'Reillys pace out wide. Phil need to be dropped, he offers nothing this season and a central pair of gundog and kovacic is asking for trouble. Thought Kev was on it and pressed brilliantly. While my choice of words may not have been appropriate (I have a soft spot for khusanov) I still feel Peps stubburness is hindering us. Think Gvardiols future is midfield.
