Bournemouth (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Too many slow and non scoring one-paced, midfielders starting to look their age

They're not insurmountable but we've definitely got problems and they won't be resolved without dipping into the transfer market either in January or next Summer

This idea that it's just our traditional mid Autumn slum will soon be exposed as a total myth and our the only consolation is that Arsenal also lost.
When Bournemouth got the ball they moved quickly and moved forward. We looked to two steps and were slow everywhere

Injuries are a major part of the problems we have..
Do you really think if we had a fully fit squad we would be struggling through games???
Yes. We have been playing way too slow in the same set-up all season, devoid of creativity or urgency in midfield and inviting teams to counter us way too easily. Teams also braver in playing around our press these days on account of it not being there cause we are so slow centrally. Rodri is obviously a huge miss considering he is the beat holding midfielder on the planet, but other than him I don't see injuries as an excuse. Hopefully De Bruyne comes back with his creativity but he weren't puling up any trees before his injury.

Abysmal squad-building in the summer, a style of play that has been largely found out so far this season, a terrible balance in midfield that just doesn't work no matter how many times he tries it and Pep for whatever reason not being proactive nor reactive at all in his game-management this season has way more do with our performance levels so far this season than injuries

Yeh sometimes I think they need a reality check, mental issues because you played shit at the euros, I wish they were my problems. No one could have seen the type of injury but come on loads were predicting it at some point like it was impossible to keep up that amount of games injury free. And it wasn’t like we haven’t had any warnings of how bad we play without him, zero contingency plan.
Not sure where you’re getting these observations from. Mental issues?
After winning consecutive 4 PL titles just after the treble, there are bound to be tired players who take some time to be motivated. I understand that.
Rodri & Bobb’s injuries could NOT be foreseen & no top player would have come knowing they would not get in the team in Rodri’s position. However- the situation is different now IMHO & we SHOULD buy a top replacement in January & it would be up to Rodri to fight for his place.

City fans aren’t known as entitled fans so let’s stop pretending we know what our owners & Pep are thinking

good point. i remember leipzig doing it sometimes when losing and wondering why. i’ll never understand it i guess.

i wonder how many players who started today would actually be on the pitch today without all the injuries.
5-6 i think

Just a game too far with a squad stretched too thin. Bournemouth played well (especially Kerkez & Semenyo). They also had the full week to prepare and were able to play with a lot more energy than us. Only Ederson & Gvardiol can really hold their heads up today. Foden & Silva kept trying but it just didn't work out for them today. Might as well have played O'Reilly & McAtee for all the use Kovacic & Gundogan were today.

Thankfully I`ll not be joining some of you who appear to be ready for suicide watch. This was our first defeat in 33 games and sooner or later it was always going to happen that we lose a game.
Some of you are forgetting that we`re involved in a hard match in Portugal in 72 hours so maybe Pep decided that he would/could not make some major substitutions.
Just one of those days I`m afraid, so some of you need to take a grip and look at the broader picture.
Exactly

We had to hit the brick wall at some point and we have now.

We need to get behind the lads and keep the faith. This team and this manager have give us so many brilliant memories over the years, to be a mardarse and slag them off isn't even in my thinking.

Bournemouth aren't no slouches, they're organised and full of energy.

Have a good night you proper blues, let the usual nobheads and rags post their comical shite when we don't win.

Super city.
We were shite but this.

One for the history buffs, is that our first defeat against Bournemouth? I honestly can’t remember them ever beating us.

The weekend started so well with Arsenal losing but even before kick off today's game just had that feeling about it. A buyount Bournemouth who've been playing well, against an injury ravaged City side who are playing on empty at the moment.
We have been getting away with it the last few weeks but today it all caught up with us. Unbelievably with a bit more luck we might have salvaged a point we didn't really deserve.
We have to pray we get some bodies back fully fit soon and our key players find some form. Sadly three off them are pushing 34 now, Kev, Walker and Gundo and it's starting to show. Foden is a shadow of himself and Bernie isn't great atm.
Early days yet but this could be an average season by our high standards. It happens and if it does we can't complain, it feels like the end of an era.
Pep has to try and adjust his tactics to cope with the gaping hole in our midfield as every team are finding it easy to play through us. Can he do that? I'm not so sure.
A huge rebuild is needed in the summer to revamp the squad.

A drop-off was inevitable.

I’ve got shit on for criticizing our performances this season, even when we win, because they have, in fact, been way below par, so I’m not sure why so many are seemingly surprised and/or upset.

As much as I love him, Pep has been awful, too. Where’s the energy on the touchline? Why is Gundo still starting? What is he giving us that McAtee can’t? Why did he keep Haaland on today? he was clearly hurting, and we were basically playing with ten men. I won’t even get into Walker still playing, let alone starting. He’s been awful for two years now. The disrespect to Lewis recently, in my eyes, has been laughable.

Credit to Bournemouth. They’re an excellent team and are the deserved winners.
Maybe keeping Rico for Tuesday.

Pep kinda messed up by not playing the kids but it is what it is.

Defense was going to be an issue. Gvardiol had a knock last game, Akanji didn't play last game because of a knock, Walker has been out for a while and Ake has had a start/stop season with niggles. Stones/Dias out and Lewis needed a rest. Maybe a Simpson-Pusey could have done better than the unfit defenders? Idk.

A Rodri would have helped by shielding the back 4 but he isn't here and neither Gundo or Kova can provide that level of physicality and presence.

Haaland seemed to pick up something in the first half and he's playing like he's already running on fumes.

Not enough goal threats or playmakers on the pitch. Look leggy without physicality.

Will need to be up for the Sporting and especially Brighton match. Get to the international break and hopefully get healthy/fit. Everyone is upset with the effort but it is still just the first loss in the league (I know some of the wins have been unconvincing but wins nonetheless).

Mark Travers will put his clean, as new gloves on Vinted later. Barely worn.

Better team won. Next. Always favoured us after a defeat or two, gives us an edge and hunger again.

Yeah, the not was missing but you got the gist.

I will be pissed off beyond belief when certain injury prone players accept the International call up after next weekend.
Well if they do that then that would be a club discipline issue surely? If they're fit enough to play for Country they can play for Club.
