Bournemouth (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

The term "begs belief" refers to something that is too extraordinary to be believed. It can also refer to something that is not worthy of belief or trust.

I’m not saying the use of the term “beggars belief” is wrong. I’m saying “begs belief” isn’t wrong, as used.
This debate begs the question, is this just another Americanism, like "I could care less"?

But something that begs belief would mean something likely to make you believe, whereas something that beggars belief would mean something that you find it hard to believe.

(And I'm an etymologist. Well, English Language GCE grade 1.... when grade 1 was good)

We need more forward passes into space for us to run onto!!! Only problem many of our team are too old/ slow now.I believe we must have a clear out and get round pegs in round holes as well!! midfield we have a good start with Rodri and the two Nico’s. Get them together now!!
Those old guys ran the show and their control and use of their bodies are the best in the team. Both Marmoush and Haaland are not good on the ball and neither is Nunes.or Doku.
I'll let Marmoush off though as he put a 30 yarder in the top corner

My fears over the game were allayed after 10 minutes when I realised how easy it was for us to get the ball back. Bournemouth weren't really at the races were they? Maybe on the beach.
I had another slight fear when Kovacic got his red, but Lewis Cook made sure it didn't last long.

Taking nothing away from us, the "old" lads in midfield all had good games and we dominated. A very good performance.
Even for the bonuses, do players really fancy Thursday night football, and the draining effect on league performance?

Might post that on a Fulham thread... "not sure I want to spend good money on Thursday night football..."

Penultimate game of the season...
2 nil up ....half time ..at home to Bournemouth ..in a crucial match..

What could go wrong ?

Did anybody else share my flashback to Mel Machins Maine Road Madness in May 1989?

I was petrified at the thought of the ghosts of Luther Blisset and Ian Bishop returning to wreck the last home game of the season....any Blue who was there that day will understand. 3nil up we were that day!

I was on the Kippax..Eddie Large was on the bench, City probably on drugs in that 2nd half
Never seen a party go flat so quickly 3-3 full time, promotion hung in the balance..,on a knife edge

Put it this way.,..no one took a beach ball to bradford away the week after,.;)

Btw, as I have criticized Pep in the last weeks, I found it very refreshing to see a back line of 5 or even 6! when Bournemouth was in possession to not give them simple chances.

That's a nice payback for the shithousery we are facing all the time.

I often hope - when being 1 up - that we refuse to attack, circulate the ball 50 times in our half taking the piss while the ground belt out OLÈs in full voice, taking the piss.

Strong defence, Pep, if we want to win titles.

Wasn't GCE grade AB or C and it was CSE that was grade 1234 or 5 ?

I was in the the Kippax that day. A grim day. I remember being impressed by Ian Bishop.

Prior to the game I did. Not during it. Even after the sending off, I was confident we'd win.

There was a period in the 2nd half when we started to play some very relaxed and controlled football.

Remember it like yesterday . Sickening . I think that when I was bloodied as a Pessimistic Blue . But the day out at Bradford was sublime.

I wish we would do, keepy upies, and head tennis, sit on the ball etc, when they park the bus

Yes when we got our red. And people on here are touting Gvardiol as player of the season, he is a disaster waiting to happen every game.
Very few, if any, City players have had a very good season.
Gvardiol is still a relatively new City player.
Pep has played him mostly at left back, which was probably a big test for him. I think he has played well there.
But to me, he is a left-sided centre back.
Also, his goals were crucial during that period when he was our second highest goalscorer.
If not Josko, who should get City's player of the season ?

I enjoyed last nights game. Pretty exciting, played alright, big send off to KDB and a big welcome back to Rodders.

The 2 black spots sum up our season; both the kova sending off and their goal came from a sloppy backwards pass that just seems to have become part of how we boringly play.
Needless, lazy passes that dont achieve much and we have been caught out quite a few times with it

There was a point in the first half where we had the ball on our left just outside the Bournemouth area. It was screaming for Haaland to make a run from where he was beyond the far post, in front of the defender marking him, so the ball could be played into him in front of goal, where there was plenty of space. Yet he didn't move, and that happened a few times. We all commented on this, but we assumed he's being told not to do this.

However Pep has said he leaves the decisions in the final third to the players. So maybe it's Haaland's choice. If so, it's a piss poor, brainless choice.
Yep, it's almost like he's not happy with who he's playing with. I don't know, but something seems a bit off. Just get over the line for top 5 and fuck this season off forever.

Was it not 3 up at half time? Was telling the kids about it
Deffo 3 up but always thought all 3 came in the first half
