Bournemouth (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

At the risk of sounding incredibly patronising, how refreshing to see an opponent attack City from the first minute, and not resort to the Jordan Pickford School of timewasting.

An entertaining game, but we still need Rodri to stop some of those transitions at source.

Typical that everyone remembers Savinho losing the ball when City were in a promising position, but not the two times when he beat the full back and crossed for Marmoush and Reijnders to shoot at goal.
Frustrating as fuck, but let's all use both eyes.

TYpical that everyone remembers Savinho losing the ball when City were in a promising position, but not the two times when he beat the full back and crossed for Marmoush and Reijnders to shoot at goal.

He was one on one with a single defender and acres of room to run into but he stopped running and tried to go inside the defender. Absolutely bloody stupid it annoyed the fuck out of me.

On the holding of Donnarumma's arm I believe var didn't get involved as they like to go with the onfield decision in such cases.....that is unless it's in our favour of course. Who can forget the header against Liverpool being ruled out because the goalscorer had the audacity to bump into Allison as they both jumped for the ball.
Their goal was a well worked set piece which could have been avoided if we put some players in between to protect.

In the second half Donnarumma ended up in the back of the net from a corner but because it was cleared by defensive header it was not shown on the highlights so I didn’t see what happened, I assume another set piece routine aiming to foul the keeper

Its a funny thing watching the games now, im more nervous when we have the ball around the opposition box, than i am, them having it around ours.

We have become a much more effective team counter attacking now than we are possession based, and it suits our best player.

It’s not going to bring trophies, but its a exciting to watch, and it will keep us in and around the top whilst we nring better quality in.

I backed Savinho before and after he signed a new contract and got annoyed with some of the negativity, unfortunately I am beginning to swing the other way now. He does do good things in games, but the poor decisions are still vastly outnumbering the good.

The game itself was the most enjoyable I've watched for a long while (before last season for sure) and that was in part at least due to Bournemouth's determination to play good football. I thought we were as fluid & incisive as ever and long may it continue. Excellent from all 11 starters who seem to have just 'clicked'.

It's really easy to be complimentary about opponents when you win, but I sense the respect for Bournemouth is totally genuine. Who knows what Pep will do in the summer, but if he decides it's time then Iraola could be the man for the job. Personally I'm hoping for Vinny at some point, but now I'm hearing he's just renewed with Bayern. Then again Pep could decide 3 more years, whatever happens we're still living the football dream. Onwards and Upwatds...

And well done to the Bournemouth fans, long way on a Sunday night ,almost a third of their support

It certainly was from myself, they're a "proper" footballing team. Luis Enrique's contract still runs out at the same time as Pep ;)

As far as Vinny is concerned, Bayern is a love affair, City is a marriage. As an FOC seem to remember having heard that before somewhere !

Well happy with that.
The Viking was unlucky not to get a hat-trick as their keeper just wafted his hand up in hope.
Great finish from NOR- what a player for a £50m full back :-).
Love this club.

We are clearly still trying to figure things out, but i do like what Nico is providing us in the middle. Personally i'd really like to see him and Rodri playing together there, if we are to use Foden and Cherki together - this it gives us a good balance. Bournemouth are a really good team, they'll do a lot of damage to teams this season.

it was a bit stupid from Bournemouth. against city you slow the game down and make us go side to-side and get frustrated. take the defence deep and crowd haaland should be the tactic not leave him acres on the halfway like to run into.

villa did it perfect, got their pound shop grealish to hit the shot of his life and that was that

Biggest thing for me is our lack of effective high pressing and the last 20 minutes team doesn't press at all. I hope this will improve or Pep has just decided that these players aren't capable of doing it. Kudos to Bournemouth, they are a great team and play really well out of the back.

Your comment on Sav highlights one of the issues with what some supporters base opinions on; albeit Sav did have far too many hopeless moments yesterday. However, it is often the really good and really bad that lodges in people’s brain, and then some will tell you that stats are useless and they rely on their eyes.

Savinho does have technical ability but he is not playing well enough to stop people bemoaning that we did not sell in the summer. He needs to be supported though and not scapegoated. He also needs to improve quickly and start delivering the sort of numbers he did at Girona or it will be bye bye. I’d still put ahead of Bobb, just.

Yeah, and his wife is a Manc. However, Bayern have got him on a long contract for a reason, to ward us off (or get a lot of compensation). Pep is still close to senior people at Bayern and I think to Vinny. I would not rule out another Pep extension if the team develops in the way he wants.

We played incredibly well, it was finally enjoyable to watch our performance after a long time but that ref was against us I swear to God.

City didn’t need to press hard in the last 20 minutes. Waste of energy. Get in shape and try to make them play in their own half. Bournemouth had more slightly more possession than City yesterday but the ball spent a fair bit longer in their final third than ours.
