Quote from ' The strangest laws in the UK '...
In Chester, it is technically ok to shoot a Welshman after midnight on Sunday with a crossbow, as long as it’s in the city walls.
True dat, Handbridge, over the Dee, 'Treboeth' in Welsh meant 'Fire Town' as the Taffs were forever raiding and burning it.
Be interesting to see what would happen if someone actually
skewered one, it's the law after all.
Anyway, another dreadful event by some psycho, sadly amongst us.

You'd be arrested for murder/attempted murder and told not to believe everything you read on the internet.

Yeah, but the court case would be fun.

It would be like any other open and shut murder case. There is no law stating this and there never was. It's a famous urban myth that's been disproven thousands of times to the point where you can even find an official response by the Law Commission telling you it's bullshit.

Yeah, you're right, I heard it from a guide in Chester, but it appears there may have just been some local response during the wars with the Welsh. Still a bit of doubt about the same/similar thing in York with Scotsmen though, if it was or not, but all these daft laws appear to have been repealed in 2012.
