Called up to Spains u21 squad.

Incredibly rare they call up foreign based players, even rarer that they call up foreign based players who aren't starting every week in a senior side.

Impressive to get a call up, spains squad is full of talent.

What position is he expected to play in? I remember when he was young he played out wide but now is playing more central.

If we were to put them in our current formation would Foden = Silva and Diaz = Kev? Just thinking how they might slot into the first team if given a chance.

Right now neither of them truly fit the way we're playing, particularly Diaz.

Weirdly enough I see Foden as more of a Gundogan type, in the attacking sense at least. He's graceful, and an all rounded good attacking midfielder. What he lacks right now (barring the obvious physical edge) is the off the ball movement that Silva has, to find space in between the lines, at least at senior level. But he's so young and inexperienced, it's always something he'd lack at his age. But luckily he has so much time to develop, just look at Sterling to know it can be learned.

Diaz is a different kettle of fish entirely. He's somewhat of a rough diamond right now. As we saw preseason he's a great dribbler with a great shot too. He's been compared to Messi stylistically and that'd make him not too dissimilar to Bernardo Silva either. So however Bernardo slots in will probably be the same for Brahim.

But whereas Foden's off the ball movement is probably being hindered by his small stature (not being able to move around enough to create space for starters), Diaz is maybe short of the right nous to play the role.

If we played with inverted wingers however, it'd be transparent where Diaz would slot in.

Just recently turned 18 and as you mentioned playing outside of Spain doesn't help his chances yet still makes the U21 squad. Brahim is going to be a star. On a side note, that Aaron Martin LB from Espanyol that we're apparently looking at also is in the team.
