Breaking records/stats thread

A subtle 'record breakers' banner to remind us of this season would get my vote.

And a special chapter on the season DVD to highlight each record past and present. Seems there are jist too many to remember and would be a shame if these are not immortalised.

Forgetting the end of season dvd the Amazon documentary they are making for this season should be nothing short of spectacular when it comes out considering what Manchester city have achieved i can not wait for this to come out end of season.

Wonder how long it took for the result to come in from Portsmouth
Not instant like today.
They were waiting by a ticker tape machine - seriously. I've written lots about the drama of the day. You can picture the scene as the machine prints out the words one by one of the Portsmouth score. Then someone has the job of running to the manager who is on the pitch celebrating with the players and fans as the band plays its celebratory tunes: "the score's come in...." Then the party falls flat. Typical City!

I am sure someone else has [probably done this but nice to put this season into context....

We should start to promote that name - The Record Breakers - and get the club to play the old Record Breakers theme at appropriate points each match day.
Could have been worse! We could have been playing away at Sunderland, celebrating winning the league, and then the news starts to feed around the ground........

Someone should do an English top flight table to go with this because we are aiming for much longer standing records which is quite a statement considering they played 42 games... that's how good we are though.

kind of sums up football. That treble winning rag team was one of the worst champions in the PL era yet our side gets compared to them because they fluked a CL.

I agree - when you compare with all time top flight it's still an incredible achievement. We haven't match Villa's record goals yet but if you average it our per game we're not too far behind (they scored 3 per game we're on 2.9) - we need about 14 to get a better average though! (Ten v Huddersfield and 2 each in others will do). People often go, "ah but it's only PL records" but with 38 games to 42 or 46 that means many of the attacking/points records are incredible.

On the goals our all-time record is 108 in a 42 game and 46 game season - both outside the top tier! This should be an aim as well.

And the rags still think that 99 side would wipe the floor with us.
That's because they're clowns. I put on our away game v Chelsea and their FA Cup semi v Arsenal from that season side by side a few months back, the difference in speed and intensity is fucking incredible.

I think those with twitter accounts should troll the fuck out of Stan Collymore at the end of the season providing we break the remaining records within our grasp. If any prick needs his face rubbing in it, to drive home the point about how good we are and how wrong he was, it's him.

Its also because they look back at their best starting 11 and assume that they were all at their peak throughout the season. Which just wasn't true. People remember Giggs semi final goal and think that typified his season. In reality he missed almost half the season, Jesper Blomqvist played nearly as many PL games. It was during Giggs dodgy hamstring phase when many United fans lost patience with him.

Similarly I've heard many pundits saying that De Bruyne or Silva wouldn't get in United's 98/99 team ahead of Scholes. Which is just absurd. I think De Bruyne and Silva are better than Scholes was at his speak. But in 98/99 Scholes wasnt at his peak. He was still a couple of years off it. In 98/99 he wasn't an automatic starter, he effectively shared the position with Butt.

The biggest margin record is the least special imo, depends on so many factors, the year the rags hold the record from, 2nd place only had 73 points, the rags already have more than that and dipperpool are only 1 point behind that as well. The rags also “only” finished with 91 points we have already beaten that. Think the 18 points if not beaten this year will last for a bit

Yeah and that way they can't use the "it's because the league was so poor this year" excuse if we don't break it.

Any other year the 77 points they are on now would not be scoffed at, in fact the whole of the top four are already 71+ with 3 left to play that doesn't seem bad at all(I may be wrong, I haven't checked back that far)... it's never been stronger top to bottom either, we're just fuckin' class and they can't hack it.

Pellegrini's 2014 didn't get enough credit either for the goals scored. Almost broke the goalscoring record.. We're level atm!

They hold the all-time record for most goals by a top flight team in all competitions which is an even greater achievement imo, even Pep's team won't break it this year barring some extraordinary results.
