Breathtaking

yes that's complicated ...and yes Labour won't and haven't done great things.

So what's the ultimate solution for rich and poor alike?

The American model? European models? It seems fucked in this country and nurses are leaving apparently. A and E is a war zone. You can't get GP appointments or even speak to them sometimes as they shove you on line etc.

Your point about taking responsibilty for our own health I agree with having seen the smoking fat cunts walking around Ashton.
I’ve only ever known the NHS so it’s hard to judge it against other healthcare systems. It’s certainly fucking HUGE and to my knowledge no other country has followed our model (happy to be corrected if that’s wrong). The US system seems appalling but the Germans, Dutch and Danes I used to work with all had a low opinion of our service and thought theirs were better !

Sounds delightful mate.

She really is. You’d be bonkers to think there isn’t a sizeable section of the population who don’t prioritise their own health and it’s not wrong to ask why that is. If politicians focused on solutions to the reaons then that’s probably one of the best investments they could make in the NHS right now. When did people stop taking responsibility for themselves?

or the world around them

It probably comes from being born into poverty and seeing your parents struggle, some get out through luck or conviction or whatever but most carry on in their parents footsteps and so it goes.
My dad is the greatest enigma I have ever come accross, born into severe poverty, wore rags and went to bed hungry and cold in his youth ,became a shop steward and to this day at 84 will support the underdog, yet he's a life long tory, its probably part of why I'm fucked up trying to decypher my dad.

Well I watched it on catch up.
I doubt it will change anyone's mind a lot. Most people lived through it and will remember it how they will and stick to their beliefs.
I thought it was generally very realistic and well done though possibly a little fanciful in the final episode. The traumatic scenes of loss were both realistic and moving.

I absolutely agree that’s one significant part of it - the challenge for government is breaking that cycle early so people don’t end up in crisis needing the NHS or other services. There is little point throwing more money at the symptoms of this if you don’t throw more at the causes - these are investments that pay for themselves.

A big part of what you’ve flagged is ensuring kids are engaged at school - when they enjoy it they will more than likely turn up and participate. Not everyone is academic yet thats all our education system caters for.

Unless your wife was exceptionally well informed I think you are mistaken in your timeline. The official patient zero in Wuhan was at the beginning of December and the unfortunate Chinese whistleblower who died reported at the end of December. I don't think many people outside China were talking lockdowns as an International thought till Feb.
I can certainly remember talking about it on Christmas Day 2019 with my cousin, and I am in no way involved with the medical profession.
I wasn't aware of just what was coming over the hill, but I knew enough to realise that there was a very nasty virus going round China and with globalisation, it was only a matter of time before we got some, but instead of "the superman of capitalism" taking steps to protect the country, thousands were allowed to go skiing in Northern Italy in early March, despising being known by then to be a hotspot, 3,000 fans from Madrid allowed to travel here for a football match, when Madrid was riddled with Covid, tens of thousands gathering at Cheltenham for horse racing from all parts of the UK, while our glorious leader boycotted Cobra ,meetings and boasted about letting the bodies pile high in their thousands.
He done his best.
His best to cull our parents and grandparents.

You were clearly better informed than virtually everyone else if you were discussing it on Christmas day in 2019.

I am not defending the actions of any politician but I doubt it was on anyone's radar until late December. The contingency planning for respiratory infections had clearly fallen into abeyance at some point as shown by the lack of PPE.
