Brentford (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

If this Khusanov is a no nonsense defender, get him in. Could we also bring back the old Ruben Dias, when he arrived everything ended up in row Z if there was any doubt. The reason we're not up top, is because we faff about ar the back.
Pep needs to get out the old Ewing 'n Leivers Pathé shots. No nonsense was the first idea. It was also the second, third 'n umpteenth idea.

Brentford are a good side, especially at their ground. Was impressed by the speed and movement of Wissa. There's a player in Lewis-Potter too - maybe not the standard we'd want at City, but could be in the running for England at some point.

Got to give Brentford a bit of credit for plugging away but we really should have seen that through to the end from being 2 up.

It isn't as simplistic as "a point at Brentford isn't bad" because that statement is very true.
A draw at Brentford is really poor when you go into the last 10 minutes 2 nil up. Amazingly poor to then not go on to win that game. To not manage a game until the very end and to throw away two vital points which was in our hands. That is what isn't good enough.

One of the hardest thing to defend is a quality cross in the air into the box! Pisses me off the players don't know that and stand off the players crossing ! For me that was where the danger was coming from!

For twenty minutes, Crisis City reported present. Then from the twentieth minute to the eighty-second, Masterful City, an old friend but one we haven't seen for some time, showed up. From the eighty-second minute to the final whistle, City That Fold Like a Cardboard Box in a Downpour burst onto the scene.
Make of it what you will.

I got caught up in my own little 'City are back' hype.
I wanted to go there too...until i realised we played Lopetegui's West Ham without Bowen, Leicester (and should have drew or lost) and some part time team ran by a bunch of (probable) paedophiles. However, the 2nd half was the best attacking show i've seen by us in terms of intent last night, but lack of any help in midfield for the defence means they are pulled apart - proof last night that perhaps it's not all Rico Lewis' fault and maybe a problem with a system that has no legs. (that we've all known about for 12-20 weeks).

Its never as bad as it seems and as good as it should be , its clear after 4 tough seasons and some aging , regular if not chronic injury to some parts of a number of players bodies the team as a whole has lost some of its luster and the current squad will never get it back , a bit like attempting to reverse dementia with the same band aid , you might slow the regression but you end up with the same result.

I didn't think we would go into January's transfer window looking to add 3 maybe 4 long term players who when settled in would add more pace and hopefully guile and positive results driven football that are less injury prone than what we have currently but I could be proven wrong we shall see.

It hasn't been Peps finest year either but given the circumstances we found ourselves in I cannot to be too critical of his gameday management of the team and his selection albeit its obvious some players should not have had as much game time as they have ala Ilkay to name one.

What is telling but not so surprising is that Pep has now said we should have been more active in the summer window but given the payments for the likes of Phillips and Nunes its clear Pep underestimated the strength of the squad given the past 4 years results and our trophy haul.

If Pep insists playing Pep ball then he needs a new Ederson, Ortega is a great keeper but a car crash when it comes to distribution, he put us under pressure with some of his passing at the back and then when he kicked it forward he only occasionally found Haaland. I’m still fuming with that draw, the midfield offered zero protection to the defence once Kovacic went off, he wasn’t the best either tbh. I dont think unless we get at least 3 decent players in and one has to be a DM we will get top 4.
We dont neded a new eddie, cant believe people tossing him on the scrapeheap
