Brentford (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Not sure that some of our fans genuinely don't watch the ref and just automatically call them cheating cunts. He done well booking that twat for feigning facial contact.
But what is wrong with that, all happy on the Kippax :-)

I thought you guys should have been out of sight at half time, and then the typical Brentford 2nd half happened although apart from when their striker went through on goal they didn't look like scoring. Brentford are no mugs and 3 points there won't be for everyone. Haaland is amazing, the lad on your right wing I thought slowed your attack down.

Be within 5 points of the top by feb and anything is possible - plenty of serial winners of big trophies in that City sode who know what to do at the business end of a season.
Right winger is oscar bobb. A very talented player , only young. But yes slows us down a lot!

Are they, though? Every young keeper these days is training with the ball at their feet more than ever. I didn't expect the club to find a replacement keeper with Ederson's qualities, but I also didn't expect them to go from Eddy to a keeper who's notorious for being poor with the ball at his feet, to the point that PSG moved on from him despite winning everything available to them bar the Club World Cup.
Ok to get to a goalie that can play comfortably with the ball, we should have got a young understudy that trained with Eddie full time, so that at some point in the future they could take over, but we didn't . So name an international goalie that we could have got, that plays with out fear with the his feet , because they are rare .

Talk about a game of 2 halves, 1st half my only gripe was why aren't more than 1 up, 2nd half was all hands on deck, the Rodri injury would have played a big part in that but we got the 3 points when last season we would have got 1 or 0 but we move on.

Not a Savinho hater or fan but I don't see what he offers, his end product is more than to be desired and defensively doesn't offer much, hopefully now he has his new deal he kicks on.

International break now gives some players time to recover from injuries and hopefully kick on

Although he’s not as good with his feet as Ederson (who is the greatest of all time with his feet) he’s not bad. Certainly not the donkey you’re making him out to be. To say he is poor with his feet is to say De Bruyne was average because you are comparing him to Messi .

I would love to see the stats of assists for goals from Eddie, versus goals that should have been saved. I loved Eddie, but not in the same league as Gigio in shot stopping.

A good first half which we controlled completely but only managed to get the one goal. It was a difficult watch in the second, we sat back a bit and just ran out of steam probably due to the tough match midweek. We also lost our shape and all the second balls along with difficulty stringing a couple of passes together.
We got the three points though. Hopefully no one gets injured in the internationals and those who currently are injured get fit. We really need to start playing for 90+ mins and hopefully having someone other than the big man knocking some goals in.
Well done Pep on winning 250 premier league games too.

My observations on the game:
Yes in overall terms the 2nd half was poor in relation to the 1st.
However, if Foden had cleaner contact with a couple of chances in the 1st half we would have been out of sight.
Donnarumma's distribution needs to improve. On a few occasions when he had collected the ball after the breakdown of a Brentford attack he held onto the ball for too long when we appeared to have an outlet and a potential breakaway. Despite his excellent save he nearly managed to score an own goal
I cannot figure out why we no longer seem to be able to let our wingers play in a natural role. Both Bobb and Savinho appeared more interested in keeping possession rather than taking their man on. Shades of Grealish. Bobb showed on a couple of occasions he had the beating of his man.
We no longer seem to have a player who can come on and close a game down. For me Bernardo is not that man.
Brentford are rather like Wimbledon of old so think we did well to come away with the 3 points. Low bar I know but we held on.

Big shout out to Nico Gonzalez.
It's took a bit of time, he ain't no Rodri but he's only growing into the holding position. He looks stronger, he's finding his passes and he's putting his foot in.
Chuffed for the lad as it's been tough for him but he is looking alright to me.
Absolutely, when he learns how to control the tempo of a game he will be an ideal Rodri replacement, he’s deceptively quick over the first ten years, and has a good leap on him, looks really dangerous attacking the front post to, there’ll be times we need him & Rodri in a double pivot, today would’ve been one of those games (last 20 mins)
We can actually field a team with the physicality & height to compete with those that are more direct, we look good on the counter, and look like we are controlling games a lot more, certainly for longer periods, good signs

He's nothing like as bad as people make out with his feet..he took too long on one clearance today and apart from that his kicking since signing for us as been good..not Eddie standard good but good enough for us anyway.

Kova is the man you’re looking for.
