Brentford (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Strange game to watch. Defo not enjoyable to watch but now we’ve won it feels great.

To be only 3 points off the top is far better than I expected a few weeks ago. We don’t look like title contenders really but who knows if we can kick on and improve.

the "tail of two halves" which is happening on a regular basis could be because most teams sit off us in the first part of games. once hey start pressing we start to struggle...our back four isnt as comfortable as they once were playing the ball through the midfield or by being pressed and the midfield isnt as good as receiving it under pressure....the wide players are particularly poor in keeping the ball or adding any threat .....

teams work this out and then start to press and our game goes to shit..Arsenal did it from the start of the game and we spent 90% of that game defending. Other better teams wil do the same...This run we are on in the league is against no one of any consequence with the exception of Arsenal.
We also have a goalkeeper who's poor with the ball at his feet. I understand he's a great shot stopper, but I don't understand the thinking of the club going from one of the best ball-playing goalkeepers of all time to one who's very uncomfortable with the ball at his feet. Especially when playing from the back is the 'DNA' of the club at every level, from under 8's to the senior team, men and women. Why not emulate PSG's approach to replacing Donnarumma and find a middle ground between shot-stopping and ball-playing? Oh, well. Too late now to question it, I suppose.

Very similar to the Brighton and Monaco performances ….we have to kill teams off.

A fully fit Rodri will obviously make a difference however both Foden and Nico have got to start winning the loose balls.

Gvardiol….fabulous player he is, has got to cut the one or two mistakes out he seems to make in every game….nearly cost us again today.

I know it’s nit picking but it will be the difference between a Premiership Challenge or a chase for top four.

We didn't. We stopped playing about 10 mins after he left and never got control from that point on. Brentford are poor this year. We are better defensively and the goalie is very good. Youre entitled to disagree. At the moment you aren't convincing me that my No Rodri no party comment isn't accurate.

Both Foden's chance where he missed to the right of the post and Reijnders chance that was saved exceptionally were after Rodri went off. We had 4 shots to 1 and about 80% of possession. There was no negative change when Rodri went off in the first half.

Hopefully just a minor hamstring injury.
Hope so. Glad to see him back out at the end. This was always going to happen with his recovery but still shit to see. 70% Rodri is still good enough to start for us.

You just stupid man, nothing really wrong with that. We been great 1 half, created enough to score 2/4.

Brentford at home won against everbyody, draw with Chelsea. Its a very tough ground.

We still building fitness. Hope I helped.
In terms of hard work it was OK. I'd give the team that. They work for each other in defense.

But there is no class up front and Pep's style of play makes that even worse.

I don't know how you think that we should have been up by more in the first half. We had 2 or 3 decent chances as far as I remember but not many.

When we used to play well we'd have loads of decent chances because we were fast, dynamic, intelligent, creative, positive, etc.

We are what we are at the moment (not very exciting) but I'm not going to pretend we are great just because we win or that we are dire because we lose.

Yet he made a save that kept us in the game, one that Ederson doesn’t make

Badly need more goal threat in our team, players who know how to hit the back of the net over just technical players. Imagine Semeydo/Eze/Sarr etc as one of our wide players.
Also really need a striker option on the bench. An experienced bit part player would suit us to get Erl a rest sometimes

You definitely watched a different 1st half lol
We've seen games in the past decade where we've probably created 25-30 chances in a match ..... we scored in the first half today, and put another couple of decent efforts in, but it's nowhere near enough ..... we got away with it today because of our workrate, and our organisation, which was pretty much perfect apart from the cock up that forced Donnarumma into making a save.

Sure. You can think that. I do not. We lacked urgency and progressiveness the moment he left the field. He's absolute the difference that everyone said was why we dropped off last year, of course that's not the narrative right now so.
