Brentford Fixtures. Cheer on Uwe.

You need to get to either NORTHFIELDS or SOUTH EALING stations (on the piccadilly line), Brentford overground station (not a tube - served from Waterloo ,Vauxhall and Clapham Junction) or Gunnersbury (district line AND overground). Fares on the overground are slightly dearer the tube.

Northfields and South Ealing are both a short bus ride (E2 - Northfields, 65 - S Ealing) or 15 minutes walk. Gunnersbury is a 10 minute bus ride, 30 mins walk. Brentford is less than 5 mins walk from the ground

Northfields has the best selection of pubs en route.

From Euston (which is in zone 1), first choice I would get the victora line to Green Park and change to the Piccadilly line and get a train to NORTHFIELDS (which is in Zone 3). The E2 bus then goes to Brentford and get off at the library for the ground/Griffin or get off at The Globe stop if going to The Globe/Nelson. You can walk it in 15 minutes (10 minutes to the Globe/Lord Nelson).

If the Victoria line isnt running (sometimes there is engineering works), take the Northern Line to Kings Cross and take a piccadilly line from there.

If you want a bit of a West London boozer tour from I would suggest this:

Get a tube to Northfields (40 minutes from Euston)

Turn left out the tube and walk 2 minutes. Pop into The Plough for a few early sherberts (11.20am).
<a class="postlink" href="http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/20/2035/Plough_Inn/South_Ealing" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/ ... uth_Ealing</a>

Head out The Plough and walk down Windmill Road (make sure you turn left after walking down windmill road for a minute or so and not keep going straight as it does a strange left turn half way down). After 10 minutes you will see Grove Road on the left. Walk down there and you will find a wee pub nestled right in the middle of all the houses. The Lord Nelson. Pop into there for a few wee midday jimmies.

Come out of The Lord Nelson, turn right and walk back out to the main road (Windmill Road). Look across the road and you will see The Globe. Get there for around 12.30pm and make sure you have some lunch there (there is normally a BBQ in the garden). It will start getting busy around 1pm. It will be pretty lively. Saying that, the afc wimbledon game will be on sky early so maybe a few folk will be in even earlier to watch their first game in the football league

Leave the Globe around 2.20pm and walk down Windmill Road towards the ground to The Griffin. You will be there in 5 minutes and you will still have time to have a couple of pints in there before heading to the game.

For the record, a lot of fans don't tend to leave the pub before 2.59pm to get to the game but this season, we may leave a bit earlier. Like 2.58pm

Travel info/boring stuff

Really useful weblink is the transport for London link:

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.tfl.gov.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.tfl.gov.uk</a>

It will give you how to get anywhere and any combination (tube, overground, bus, tram, water ferry etc).

My first bit of advice is BUY A PAY AS YOU GO OYSTER CARD at the tube station. You pay £3 for the plastic oyster thing but you have that forever and it will save you the money in just one journey. Its good for tube, buses, some overground, river ferries and trams. You can use it for when you come down for your London games as it never runs out.

So for example a single (non oyster card) fare from Euston to Northfields is £4 but with an oyster card its £2.50. The bus is £1.30 (as opposed to £2.20 cash). If you use public transport a lot in one day, the maximum it will charge you over the whole day is the cost of a one-day travelcard (paper ticket - £7.30 at weekends) so it's better value than a travel card (as you are unlikely to spend £7 on fares in one day). With an oyster card, I think that cap includes night bus fares too. Register it online and if you lose it, they will replace it fares intact for when you next come down.

We had our first friendly yesterday against Tonbridge Angles which we won 10-0. The football was a joy to watch, Uwe has already gained legendary status in this corner of west London. Hope a few of you can make it for the Yeovil game.

We may change the words to include Craven Cottage.

Good to see the Bees fans on here, welcome lads.

I was there in '89, there was some rumour that Millwall had infiltrated our end when the trouble broke out, I was only 17 and was more pissed off that my inflatable skeleton was popped at the torso !

Was there in '97 aswell when, as mentioned earlier, it got called off at the death....went to the rescheduled game, stood behind the net with the seats above us, can't remember the score though.

Big, big hero Uwe, glad he's got off to a good start, look after him for us ! I'll be looking out for a few wins from you boys and Uwe's quality celebration - Good Luck !

Another 6 goals tonight. That 16 in two games. And Charlie McDonald didnt even play. We don't normally romp pre-seasons so it looks like Uwe has definitely got the troops in ship shape for this forthcoming season.
