Brentford (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Thing that got me was the number of fouls given against City, think it was the 56th minute before brentford had a free given against them, by then City already had eight against them.
Those fouls stats are useless. They should include every time the ref also indicates play on. It would certainly level up the numbers if not actually be in our favour. We just play through so many fouls it's ridiculous. None of them ever get brought back either unlike some teams who play on for a couple of minutes and when they lose the ball the foul is then awarded.

If ever proof was needed that teams set up differently against us than they do against other clubs, it was there for all to see tonight. Brentford were so open against Littlewoods, compared to this evening, it was like night and day.

Completely disagree with that. Liverpool attacked them with pace, intent and energy, they pressured their defenders into mistakes and exploited gaps. We played slow ponderous football, going side to side without purpose for a lot of the match, forced them back and they seemed more than comfortable to defend with everything infront of them.

They were no better tonight than they were when the dippers thumped them, it was our poor attacking play that caused the result to be so tight.

The team that massively dominates possession always commits less fouls than the opposition*

*unless it’s Manchester City

Prem cleansheet is all that matters.
Keep getting cleansheets and the rest will look after its self.
Great finish from the big fella and let's not forget who got the assist ALVEREZ. Without that assist we don't win the game. KEEP THE FAITH CTID

Make or break, going of our record against the top 6 so far this season I'm not feeling very optimistic.
What is our record against the top 6?
We drew against spuds and dips.
Beat spuds A and Newcastle.x2
Battered the rags
Ĺost to Villa and arse.
And all with players out injured
Not too shabby imo.

It’s hard to disagree with this tonight. Even when we had opportunities to counter we got just inside their half and stopped and recycled the ball to the back 4.
Wasn’t pretty tonight but we got through it.

Every single one of my suggestions except for 1 got implemented by Pep yesterday.

1. Scrap the "Stones" role for Center backs.
2. Highlight the "Ake Role" i.e Wide CBs linking up with wingers
3. Push Walker up wide and bring the RM more central. So our possession runs through actual skilled players in the middle and not defenders masquerading as Midfielders.
4. Instruct defenders to release the ball early. Especially Dias.
5. Start Bobb on the left
6. Start only one of Erlimg or Alvarez. Not both

Point 6 was not implemented.

5 out of 6 is great adjustment. Kudos Mr. Pep. Leus keep it up :)

The Dippers didnt have to work hard for their four goals at Brentford , they were all gifts through horrendous defending just basic errors and nothing to do with the Dippers pressure and Brentford also found themselves one on one with the Dippers keeper on a couple of occasions.
We beat Brentford 3-1 at their ground only a matter of weeks ago , so a similar result to what the Dippers achieved , and none of Foden's goals were gift wrapped , Brentford play differently on their travels and are harder to break down because they park the bus and hope for a break away goal.
Perhaps if Ben Mee and company had played like donkey's like they did against the Dippers we would have won more convincingly.

Clarkie? Ffs, so negative.

As every middle aged married man will tell you, while its not easy on the eye, the end result is far more important than the performance
It's so hard now 99% of teams against us play 11 behind the ball I don't think there is another team in world football that comes up against that.

When teams play this back 5 against us I would love to try and bamboozle them with 2 strikers upfront with 2 high wide wingers, it’s Somet I would do on football manager lol, hence the reason why pep doesn’t most probably lol

Look at our fixtures in March and tell me you aren't at least a little bit worried
Bournemouth away won’t be easy before that. Got to win that and the derby and go into the Liverpool game within a point. Do that and I see us beating Liverpool and Arsenal. Drop points before we go to Liverpool and title could be over in March.
