Brian Clarke Piccadilly Radio City Commentator

Really glad Brian is still alive. Good Blue and commentator. Used to love the James H and Doc programme before and after games in the late 80s. James H used to mock Tommy a lot without Docherty realising, but it was great fun and the Doc was quite nice towards us (though I think that was because of a deep seated dislike of Ferguson)
James H still providing good, grumpy stuff on Twitter

When that ended, we switched to GMR and Jimmy Wagg and "piffy off a rock bun" and all that for the pre & post match radio.

Whether Brian Clarke was good or not is not that important. Local radio in those days was the only way of keeping up with our fortunes, or miss fortunes more like, especially away games. Now we have the benefit of live games on TV, internet streaming radio, Sky sports news, various websites etc etc.

Oh, and we had the good old pink final to read on a Saturday evening.

Alas.

Used to get so stressed with the "oh no" thing it was normally us at that time remember Sweeney being such a smug twat don't think we could argue that much as was in the going up, going down years.

I always remember Tommy Docherty giving Paul Stewart dogs abuse when signed him week in week out funny thing was it was the season I think he scored about 20 goals for us in the now championship, but he would not change his mind about him. Clarke used to always get the team we were playing mixed up if we played Derby he used to call them Oxford for some reason....and so on.

Remember if Docherty gave us praise on air you would have City fans ringing up saying he should be the next manager, same as when Hansen praised us on MOTD a few years back some City fans called for him to be given the managers job, such bellends!!
Was Sweeney a regular co-host, at some point, then?
I can only remember James H & Docherty co-presenting

I remember after Docherty really laying into Paul Stewart one week, Stewarts brother, a semi pro playing for (I think) Altrincham, phoned in and had a right go back, the next day Docherty was appointed as Altrincham's boss!

When I first started going to games in the early 80's Sweeny was the anchor for Piccadillys football coverage, with Docherty and James H talking about the rags and City respectively.

Mike Sweeney is a decent lad for a rag. The late 80s sport with James H and the Doc is the stuff of legends. The phone in was comedy gold, "Can I speak to Tommy please ? " and James would tell them off and get exasperated ! Magnificent. Brian Clarke was dire.

Was watching a 88/89 season review video the other day and on one game Clarke continues to commentate on a game as if it was half time but in fact the "second half" is another game against a different team, brilliant stuff.

Never once mentions the opposition players by name......The Derby Left Back passes to the Derby Centre Forward etc.

Makes music in the background appear to be a masterstroke.

Brian is still going strong, he has been on our table at the St Georges dinner at the Palace hotel these last two years.
Very opinionated about the way the country is going to rack and ruin. Like a tipple, and have also bumped into him a couple of time in the Abercromby on Bootle St

Been a few times on a Saturday night - full of Old Traffords finest usually out in the poxy excuse for a beer garden

I remember Brian Clarke's commentaries during City's game. A couple in particular are

1) He also commentated on rugby league games and must have got confused as in one City game he said "Wakefield are attacking up the wing.

2) In another match he said Ipswich are attacking when they had been our opponents in the previous match.
