Brighton (A) | Post-Match Thread

Probs been mentioned regarding the bookies
Friday night Newcastle 10/1 against our second team and third choice keeper
Can anyone explain why Brighton tonight were only 5/1 with nearly our full strength side ?
Bookies knew something
Yeah... very suspicious.

Serious Fraud Office should be all over this game.

I won't hold my breath.

Could well be a blessing in disguise. Bent ref, every decision and drop of the ball against us, additional emotions when fans are there. Rather than now than next Saturday. Time to reset and refocus. We have to take those factors out of the game as much as humanly possible and tonight was a timely lesson.

Our starting 11 for the final is set after Cancelo and Rodri tonight. Which again, for me could be a blessing.

Special mention also to Peter Walton, who somehow makes VAR even worse every time and gives real insight into just how poorly referees judge games and rules.

Has Rodri played more than any other player this season?

He does get caught with the odd pass back to defence which he needs to sort out.

But give the guy a break he has been a mainstay for the best part of the season, in which we won the league, progressed to the latter stages of all comps, and Pep relies on...

Although think Fern will start in CL final.
Hope and pray that he does..

I was at the game. You guys watching the tv may have seen stuff I didnt but, frankly, brighton deserved their win. But for sure 8000 home fans and no away gives home team a huge advantage. No way brighton win that in an empty stadium.

Was thinking when I switched over to the Chelsea Leicester game, as much as I like fans being back and I’m envious of anyone that is going to the Everton game, for the sake of the integrity of the competition I think they should have waited til next season. Doesn’t feel right some teams still have hugely pivotal games left and get the benefit of the crowd.

I simply do not understand Pep's obsession with including Eric Garcia in practically every match-day squad, unless he is going to sign a new contract. In the same vein, why not bring on Aké or Laporte, and either play three at the back, with Zinc and Phil or Bernie as wing-backs?
It perhaps would have been too much of a risk to bring Laporte on and have all three first choice CBs on at the same time. As you say Ake would have been the better option and going to a 3-5-1 but he wasn't great against Newcastle. The sooner Garcia fucks off the better. I would sooner have given Harwood-Bellis some minutes but I suppose he's getting useful experience out on loan.

Brighton boss Graham Potter speaking to BBC Sport about his disagreement with Pep Guardiola: "He was disappointed with me. I was over emotional with our first goal celebration. It wasn't good from me. I apologise. It was just emotion."

I thought it would have been more them kicking fuck out of us, something they're not normally known for

Pep rightly making the point we get fuck all from anybody.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking to BBC Sport: "Congratulations to Brighton and their fans. I didn't see the red card but the nicest thing we have done together is win it [Premier League] on the pitch."

On Phil Foden's goal: "What a goal. It was so good. But we gave them a goal back very soon afterwards."

On the red card: "I'm not a referee. I cannot comment."

On his disagreement with Graham Potter at full-time: "What I say to him is personal. Not here."

On Ilkay Gundogan's injury: "He got a kick in the first half on his knee. We'll see tomorrow how he feels. He didn't run properly and we decided to make a sub."

I very much liked the game today. And no i'm not crazy, but this is to turn on the players a bit and not have them relaxed. And it helped as we realised we need to try and be focused all the time or else we can lose.
A nice wake up call! I liked it.
I hope everything is ok with Gundo.

Of course fuck @ff referees and the whole PL system that is against us.

I hope for a
Ederson
Walker Dias Stones Zin
Silva Fernandinho Gundo
Mahrez KDB Foden
60 minutes game in the final PL game in order to get some CL final warmup, and then 5 changes of some midfield players to give them some rest.
I`ll go with that ... as long as Eddie can find a sky blue shirt as his distribution was shocking tonight !!

Garcia can't leave quickly enough, the worst game I've seen a full back play for a very very very long time. I understand he's not a full back but he was a complete disaster, do Barca really want him?
As a fan of Garcia for a few years I have to agree wit you F46,what the fuck do Barca see in him and even worse what does Pep ??

I agree he's had a fine season but Rodri's fuck up was the reason they won. At two up we just needed another 10 minutes of control and they'd have given up and the crowd would have been a non-factor. THat gift got them believing and the crowd right behind them. Rodri gives it straight to Trossard and then stands in shock making no attempt to get back and atone for his error. Dreadful error.
Yep, did it the other week when thought he was fouled, cost us that game too.

Can be too casual at times.

You are Stevie Wonder and I claim mt 5 quid. A dodgy sending off, a pen not given to City, a red not given for the knee high challenge on gundog, virtually every decision going Brightons way, and you missed all that?

It perhaps would have been too much of a risk to bring Laporte on and have all three first choice CBs on at the same time. Presumably THB's loan at Blackburn has now finished, as they’re not involved in the playoffs, so it would have made more sense to have him - a City supporter - on the bench than a player, who has no affiliation with the club, and is going to fuck off back to his homeland at the end of the season.

Such poor refereeing and BT coverage was insufferable. That is never a red card. They bring Walton in who quotes the law and they ignore their own eyes. Welbeck wrapped himself round Cancelo and fell over. That's the end of it.

Anyway. Good to see the lads up for the fight. Foden's goal was class and Ferny when he kept chucking the ball 15 yards forwards for the free kick late on was just beautiful shithousery.

Should have won the game and hope Gundogan is okay, but not a hugely bad thing to have such poor refereeing and to play with 10 men for 80mins. Lessons for Porto and a good fitness exercise. Plenty of time to rest up for Sunday and then another 6 days off before the big one where City bring the big eared trophy home!
It was a great test for 10 men, just gotta get used to 8 in the CL final.
