Brighton and Hove Albion PL (H) | Post Match Thread

There's definitely an issue with nobody attacking the near post when Doku's already beaten the Full Back.
However the biggest misunderstanding was when Doku ran through the middle and didn't spot the reverse pass to Haaland who would have then been through on goal.

The overriding issue is a total lack of composure throughout the team, not helped by only three starters (Dias Gundogan and Haaland) from the CL Final XI Line-up

Injuries haven't helped, but I remember thinking at Newcastle last season that Walker was struggling.
Instead of doing something, Pep (or whoever) just let things drift and now whoever plays there struggles.

Similarly if Ederson is definitely leaving in the summer then we need him to regain his focus as Ortega's distribution is too slow and puts both Lewis and Gvardiol under unnecessary pressure

Gonzales looks slow, but then again, so did Rodri when he first joined
Let's give him to time to adjust to the pace of English football

Marmoush looks a player, but if anything, we seemed to have too many attacking players on the pitch and were always vulnerable to a quick counter

I disagree.

We look like a very well coached team who have young and inexperienced players and new signings.

I mentioned about Paris at Anfield the other night. Their execution was appalling but they looked extremely well coached.

We looked like that today but at a lower standard.
so you think Lewis, Doku have been well coached?

Just got home.
Fucking awful again.
Who the fuck plays 4-2-4 nowadays, especially when the front 4 just stand up front in a line waiting for the ball.
We sign a new DM in Nico and leave him to totally fend for himself on his own in there.
We have zero pattern of play or any control.
Corners are dire and produce nothing except for an opponent attack. I hope if we have a set piece coach, he is quickly replaced.
Doku for all his hard work etc may as well not bother as his delivery is pathetic.
As for Ortega, can’t jump, can’t dive, can’t think, can’t kick (and people said he would be fine as number 1 FFS)

It has to and it will but I suspect things will get worse before they get better , this squad would struggle to get 50 points next season , they lack spark , fight, creativity a winning mentality , basic skills even and an ability to entertain and are not well coached and man managed on match days now.
We wouldn’t struggle to get 50 points. Depending on the outcome of the charges, what competition we are playing in in Europe, if at all, and who is going to sign for us, we will be a 70pts team at worst.

Can’t even be arsed going into how much is currently wrong, think @Ric said it earlier in that it’s pretty much expected now.

As usual, nothing can be said against Pep, but I’m sorry some of his decisions today regarding player selection & tactics, and then subs, are bordering on insane.

No, I watched his performance closely the second half and if you don't have anyone to pass to every time because your team mates are running to the back post, and your busting a gut to get to the goal.line and cross the ball it's really hard to get the ball to them. This is down to coaching. Pep should see this and tell one of Mamoush, Haaland and Gundo to run towards the ball. But he doesn't. As to why Gundo stays on for the entire game I have no idea. Bringing KDB on for 5 mins to try and change it was criminal.
You do not pass where you want your teammate to go. It's football 101.

so you think Lewis, Doku have been well coached?
There were numerous occasions today where Lewis was telling Nico what to do when Brighton first picked up the ball so he could either be in position at right back or pressing to win the ball in midfield. There was a flick on by Welbeck that set up a promising chance for Brighton that Lewis hung back on instead of going for the header with Welbeck and snuffed out the chance.

That’s all coached.

Doku looks like one of the best players in the world until the last thing he does, that’s all on him. He gets all the bits coached into him right.

That was awfull today, pretty much expected it,an yess they shud of won, this season is just a reset season it is what it is,got sum easy fixtures in run in so hopefully we can get over line an get in a cl spot,im not sure we will but we will see,got a good chance for fa cup but its just if we turn up or not,big overhawl needed, not sure peps got the energy for it,but we will just have to see

i think we hit bottom low a few months back, the side does have quality on an individual basis but its not clicking, the January signings have lifted us a little, it will come together after the summer window with the correct signings i think but we have a lot of players to shift out, we have to be ruthless on those players who are simply not good enough 'we all know who they are' KDB has been a great servant to the club but again he's another one to go

Evolution from the heights of being the best team in the world for 5 seasons is proving to be more difficult than most thought it would be.

Players don't choose to be fatigued or injured or to miss chances or to play badly.

We've 'collapsed' from a perfect storm of brilliance to a perfect storm of mediocrity.

If guys of the insight & experience of Pep & Tixxi didn't expect it,how could we ??

The 'evolution' from where we are to where we've got to be will take more than one season and will have plenty of bumps and setbacks.

Supporters will have to learn to support the team again if the journey isn't going to be fraught and frustrating, today's support was pathetic !!

With necessary changes on and off the pitch , Peps back room team and coaches are not up to the job we will be but I referring to this squad as it stands.

Mate he so few options. 10 years ago Aguero would have banged in those Doku crosses, but these days hardly anyone runs to the near post.
It wouldn’t make much difference if Haaland went near post, far post or dropped deep.
When there isn’t any other players busting a gut to get into the box Haaland is very easy to mark out of the game.
We make it easy for the opposition defensively these days.
