Brighton and Hove Albion PL (H) | Post Match Thread

Oakie, when you saw the team did you feel confident ?
I don't know whether you class me as per your post but I was dreading the match.
4-2-4 ! One of the mids being Gundo.
Despite months of mediocre performances Pep stuck to the same small bunch of players including Bernie as the first sub.
His refusal to try a different player is being stubborn beyond belief.
If he has fallen out with Grealish, don't even put him in the squad.
Rico cannot play full back full stop so why persist with him there ? Try something different.
Surely after 7 days rest, Kdb can manage more than 10 minutes. If not ..........
The entire reason this thread exists is so supporters can say what they think. If we force posters to only post positives woth no moans/criticism allowed we are RAWK.
Absolutely agree Blue Mist, got to the ground, was told the team and once again, thinking, here we go again!! Rico, poor lad, getting crucified each week; Gundo, on for the full game, yes he assisted for the 2nd goal, but be honesty people what does he really contribute, from what he’s given prior to leaving for Barca. Then there’s the two wingers, Doku, played well, but Savinho, why is it he cannot cross a ball as a winger or decides to take on an extra man when the pass is the better option. He’s young yes, but who is coaching him! We had a keeper yesterday who 6 months ago was pushing Eddy for first choice, but that kicking and positioning for the free kick, I ask you! I understand we’re going through a very untypical season and I for one am not one of the Pep out nonsense, but a season of change is due, to think we’re worried we won’t beat Bournemouth in the cup, or finish top 4. From what we’ve been used to, yes, we have gone backwards for sure. But I’d rather be in our position than that shower of shite from Stretford.

Recruitment has been shocking last few windows bar the odd player, they are mid table signings or ones who Arsenal under wenger in his last few seasons would have made.
For whatever reason, we decided not to upgrade our obviously aging side. And now we're left with 8+ players we'd like to move in spite of the massive spend in the last Winter window.

I doubt very much that this is Trixi's or Pep's fault... it's probably down to ownership seeing success and thus reluctant to spend.

What have got against South Wales?

They both flatter to deceive a lot… I'm not blaming them, they are both young (especially Savinho), both could make a fool of me in a few years (lets hope they do for the clubs sake).

However, they are not ready right now to be playing so much, for a side that wants to win the top prizes.
Doesn’t help that we play against buses, cos we press so high up the pitch, we’d be bidding £100m for Doku if he was playing for Brentford or Forrest.

On the break with less bodies to aim a cross through, I think he’d be devastating.

Still miles more effective than anybody else we have out wide.

Also I find our recruitment really odd, we’ve created an attack, with Haaland, Savinho and Doku that absolutely doesn’t suit our style of play.

Champions league we're having a laugh.

Worst atmosphere I've probably ever seen yesterday. Outsung by Brighton.
We can blame day trippers and tourists all you want but yesterday it was regulars that were sat in silence. On phones or chatting to friends.

Tepid
The atmosphere in the stands, apart from games against the biggest teams, reflects the energy on the pitch. There was very little of that on show yesterday and the fans picked up on that.

I know what your saying but that's when we need to be playing our part and getting behind the team. We've turned into a right spoilt fanbase

I thought Brighton were excellent. Fast, physical and entertaining. Smash and grab to go in ahead at h/t. I thought if they got one in the second half then they’d get two. More important not to lose yesterday and a good point against a good team.

We need at least four top players to get back to where we were.

They will beat us in a few weeks, 8 league games to go and i see us winning 3 at the most, draw two and lose 3.

Utd, Palace and Everton will do us the way we play

Soton, Leicester and Wolves we will win

Draw v Villa and Bournemouth

Yep - Txiki Begiristain has done a very poor job the last few years in terms of incomings. We squeezed everything out of our elite players

Personally, I find XG quite useful.

You can have a team have 70% of possession as opposition have wanted to play on the counter so they were happy to concede possession.
The team with 70% also have 30 shots, which looks great on paper but they could be all from 30 yards.
These stats would lead you to believe they should have won.
But if there XG is shown as 0.6 (as an example) it gives more body and insight into the other statistics, showing that they did nothing with the possession and struggle to create clear cut chances.

XG gives a good insight into who’s had the better chances.

But I agree just using it in isolation and saying. This teams XG is 3 and the other teams XG is 2.5 so the team with the higher XG should have won isn’t probably the best way to use it.
i quiet like xg because i saw stats to say city are up there in face the least amount of shots the problem is the shots we do give up and very high chances of scoring so xg is usual in that aspect

missed fulham in that run as well

What I find odd is that Savinho and Doku are playing every week. OK, we paid substantial money for them, but they're still kids, and they're not world-class exceptions to the rule.

Meanwhile, Nico O'Reilly, who is at least decent, doesn't get a sniff of a start. Doesn't usually get brought on either.

Ah, well.

I have wondered how our academy kids feel about players the same age but bought and played ahead of them. O'Rilley, MacAtee, and few others should be given a chance.
I would have gone with MacAtee over Gundo yesterday
