Brighton (H) Post Match Thread

Excellent performance from nearly all the team yesterday (Walker gave the ball away a little too much for my liking to be honest).

We remained in control and patient throughout the full 90 minutes, knowing the opportunities would eventually arrive and they duly did.
Two excellent goals scored by Raheem and Sergio.
Yes, Brighton should have had a penalty, but we still would have won the three points regardless.

It seems to me that the players were in energy conservation mode, knowing that the season is a long process, it was important to just remain on top and avoid risking any injuries from overstretching etc.

Stroll in the park.

It's all about next week can we turn up with a game plan or will we bottle it at the home of the bus wreckers.

I don't think our players will "bottle" it anymore at Anfield.

For some reason this club has had a distinctly negative psychological mentality when playing at Anfield for some time now, but I firmly believe after everything that happened last time in the Chumps League, that we've finally reached our "nadir"/crescendo of fear of playing there, our player's mentality should be much more relaxed from now on and the result will flow naturally from that.
For me a draw will be a good result.

Played within ourselves but conserved energy for a big week ahead. First goal was text book City under Guardiola, how many times have we seen Sane find some space and Sterling get ahead of his man to find the back of the net?

Zinchenko got up and down the pitch and he will catch a team out with that switch he kept sending over to Sterling.

Bernardo his usual rock steady self in the middle, will be competition in the creative midfield department with Kev back in training and young master Foden keeping his development going.

Well done to Brighton too, they caused us a few problems with their running and their two centre halves defended like their lives depended on it.

Onwards and upwards, big, big week coming up. Kickstart the champions league campaign and get the Anfield monkey off our back. If we can turn old Trafford into a place where we used to get nothing into a place where we always win, why can’t we start doing it at that annoying dump hole?

MOM? Zinchenko
Don’t see that. He misplaced at least three passes that weren’t that difficult. Don’t get me wrong I like the lad and he had an ok game but Raheem was Motm as our most dangerous player by a country mile. I have a lot of respect for Zinchenko, we try and sell him, we try and loan him, he hangs on in there and ends up starting in the first 11. Great attitude and trust in himself.

Another great performance. Brighton defended pretty well in their box but offered nothing going forward. Have been left scratching my though as to why fernandinho was left on the pitch for another 90 mins. He looked a bit off the pace to me and got caught in possession once or twice. It didn't seem like his skillset was especially required as the game went on so I don't know he wasn't given a rest. They could have brought him off after an hour against Fulham too. I'd worry about us going into the game next week if he isn't looking a bit sharper.

A comfortable victory but never a match. The game took place almost entirely in the Brighton third of the pitch, City had 80% possession, 21 attempts to Brighton's 2 and yet we're being told that they were brilliant. "Brilliant" now appears to describe any side outside the top six that manages to avoid complete annihilation at the Etihad. As for City I don;t think we've been at our best yet by any means but 10 scored, none conceded and nine points from our last 3 games is mighty impressive. Perhaps avoiding complete annihilation is "brilliant".

A bit lax early doors with misplaced passes but as the game went on we seemed to improve two brilliant goals. Credit to Brighton they were a tough nut to crack.

Good win yesterday, but next wk Fernandinho needs to wake the fck up imo, he's making basic mistakes and that was a pen when he tried to head that corner away, we cannot afford any silly slip ups, cheap free kicks etc at Klanfield and I feel they may target Fern like Lyon did.
