Brighton & Hove Albion (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

but it only seems to be us that are suffering
Have you not seen the form Arsenal, PSG, Madrid, Bayern, and United this year? And Villa, for the record.

Arsenal currently 10 points off top spot in the PL and struggling in Europe. Madrid six points off Barca and also struggling in Europe. Bayern are top in Germany but also below expectations in Europe. United, ha. Villa are doing well in Europe but have just lost four on the bounce and are 8th in the PL.

Liverpool have started well but their dip in form and run of injuries will come. And it's also worth mentioning that Liverpool have had two or three burnout seasons in recent years. Klopp left because he was fucking knackered after playing such intense football for such an intense club for so long.

Bad form happens to every team, its impossible to win every single game forever.

Pep just to revise his tactics, just like he started playing stone in midfield, he has the ability to come up with something new.

I expect city back firing after the international break.

Ivan toney and douglas luiz both moved for around a combined £80m in the summer.

We could have done a lot worse than those two as cover for rodri and haaland given we shelled £100m on Nunes and Philips previously.
Not quite the quality and a position that we don't really have to strengthen.

Weird charm offensive from a gooner! But yes your right problem is Stonesy is our most injury prone player in the aquad

Your first point might be correct but I think we've had more players at a couple of major tournaments than other top clubs and we rely on a smaller squad.
As to what they'll be like in early April and after next summer, I think the answer is "fucked" or "even more fucked" if we continue with a small squad of ageing players some of whom are injury-prone.

I absolutely believe that our squad has more reasons to be “exhausted” than pretty much any other. I’d say there’s no doubt about that as far as English teams are concerned.

I also think that the current injury crisis is a product of that; it is a more likely reason than unfortunate coincidence (bad luck, although that will play a part).

Is the age of the squad part of the issue? In some cases, it could be.

Is this existential injury crisis City’s main problem? I think so.

I don’t think a fully fit squad loses four-in-a-row.

That doesn’t mean the squad rebuilding of recent times has been as good as it could have been and the next few transfers could be very important.

On the transfer / squad front, I was convinced in the summer that we needed to expand the squad (with quality players, of course) so that players could be rested more and to get ahead of the squad transition that has to come due to the wonderful players whose age means they will have to be replaced sooner rather than later.

I also wonder whether the club could have been more aggressive in the market and used its financial power to apply knock-out blows to certain transfer deals; that might be easier said than done.

It just about do-able but we cannot afford anymore defeats which is near enough possible on current form and state of the team. A couple of new signing scould possibly help but finding the right ones and the bedding them in the team is easy said than done. We very rarely dip in the January transfer window.
we only have 1 goalscorer. if he gets hurt, god help us.

Pep initiated our current slow control game plan, because we were struggling to defend against quick transitions and it worked for a couple of years. However, our squad is 2 years older (the engine room in particular contains Gundogan 35, DeBruyne 34 and made of glass, Bernardo 30 and Kovacic 30) and we’re now struggling against quick transitions worse than ever, with 28 shots at goal conceded from fast counterattacks before yesterday. The next nearest team was, ironically, Brighton with 18. Our defensive injury crisis hasn’t helped, but Pep needs to pull one of the biggest rabbits of his career out of the hat to arrest this particular slide with the players currently available
