Brighton & Hove Albion (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Have you not seen the form Arsenal, PSG, Madrid, Bayern, and United this year? And Villa, for the record.

Arsenal currently 10 points off top spot in the PL and struggling in Europe. Madrid six points off Barca and also struggling in Europe. Bayern are top in Germany but also below expectations in Europe. United, ha. Villa are doing well in Europe but have just lost four on the bounce and are 8th in the PL.

Liverpool have started well but their dip in form and run of injuries will come. And it's also worth mentioning that Liverpool have had two or three burnout seasons in recent years. Klopp left because he was fucking knackered after playing such intense football for such an intense club for so long.
All good points. I think another problem that to be fair is hardly something that just affects us is that the rest of the league has improved a lot. We have definitely regressed as have Arsenal. The mid table cubs are all excellent on the counter with loads of pace and can really take advantage of our fullback in midfield when we lose the ball. Its possible this wasn’t the case so much when we first started it and we need to adapt accordingly.

So called lesser teams can now also really take the game to us as Brentford, Fulham and Bournemouth have showed recently. Obviously Rodri makes a huge difference but an injury to him was always going to happen one day.

Nipped to the shop ???? While the game was on ? FFS what did you need ? Oxygen ?

No food. I'd been putting it off all day and it was due to close. I could sense the inevitable was going to happen and thought fuck it I'll go now. I was hoping we'd hung on or broke away for a second by the time I got back but as feared we'd lost.

The quality throughout the league is genuinely astonishing. The leap that Championship sides have got to make now is huge because they can no longer count on a handful of poorly run mid-table clubs to have an off-year, except maybe Everton. Our Centurions and Fourmidables teams were fantastic but they were helped by the fact that we were two seasons ahead of everyone else with regards to playing out from the back, pressing from the front, and really capitalising on making the most of quick transitions. Now the rest of the league is a bit wiser, the managers are a bit smarter, and players are just that bit more astute. Everything's data and figures and analysis now, and it's caught up to us a little bit. Fitness levels have also gone up loads across the league in the last five years, which means we don't wear teams out in the same way anymore. There were definitely signs in the first half yesterday that Pep's going to start looking at a new approach - instead of setting up camp on the edge of the box and waiting for a gap in the opposition's formation, it seems like we're going to sit a bit deeper as a team, invite the opposition on, and build through the middle of the pitch. It should work wonders for Haaland - we should have been out of sight by half-time yesterday and it was only those missed chances that stopped us. Then we ran out of energy. I'm curious to see what Pep does with this team next.

we only have 1 goalscorer. if he gets hurt, god help us.
Foden, once he can get himself back in form is more than capable. There is still plenty of goals in the team it is unlocking that potential is the current stumbling block. We are still creating chances.

I'm done with this team

Absolutely disgraceful stuff. Can't even do the basics right. Developed a weak mentality and can't hang onto a lead. Only a few players are doing their job but we've become bottle jobs!!!

Pep is a spent force. In reality, most managers get a good 10-15 year run if they're a top manager and that's their lot. Pep is probably there now.

Without Haalands goals we would be bottom half. And nobody can say we would play differently and players would make up the goals if he didn't play because they wouldn't, they're all performing shite. Haaland should be looking for his move away.

Every dog has its day and we have. We'll be pretty much on the same downward spiral the rags have been for 10 years.

But that's football. You can dominate forever. English football history tells us that.

I've had a great 3 years supporting city, since 2021 because I wanted to support Grealish but I've lost hope.

Well done Brighton. Great spirit. Definitely a team I might align myself with.

I don’t fully agree tbh. Brighton weren’t brilliant yesterday it was just we were so knackered. Liverpool have been grinding. Arsenal look rocky. The rags are well the rags. Chelsea are inconsistent

Agree with the tactics point tho. The high line has gone thankfully

I just mean generally really. The type of football being played throughout the leagues is magnificent to see since Pep came to this country. I'd argue the skillset of your average League Two centre-back is about level with what the average Premiership defender was capable of 20-25 years ago. The kind of football that Bournemouth, Fulham, Brighton, Brentford, etc. are capable of is lightyears ahead of where English football was even 10 years ago. It all adds up over the course of the season and I think it's going to be a very long time before we see anyone get 95+ points again, at least until the next major innovation comes along that 90% of the teams can't keep up with at first.

Interesting Arsenal have regressed when they have tried to re create City at quite a cost, albeit the 2018 software version.
Possibly more evidence teams are getting better at playing against this style.
