Brighton & Hove Albion (A) | Post Match Thread

I’ve coached at many levels & when I watch Nunes, it’s like he’s turned up to training at an under 14’s team & he looks like he will be a fantastic athlete & so quick - then you quickly realise he’s never player football before, as he has no concept of the game in terms of space, passing, heading the ball & the rules of the game. He was like an 8 year old defending trying to save his face when giving the penalty away! Prior to that he needed to just let Trafford pick the ball up but be proceeded to trap the ball, which meant Trafford couldn’t pick it it up - he’s like a brain dead 8 year old who doesn’t know the rules! Astonishing we haven’t gone out to get a right back!

Thought Rodri bossed the game until their subs came on & he ran out of steam, surely Pep should have added Nico to help him - which was the same as last year!

I don’t understand how we end up with some much space between our defenders - pick 4 defenders that can defend - Pep reverted to that in our treble year & needed now!
when you play inverted full backs that constantly push into midfield its pretty simple. See their second goal. Overloads and space everywhere.

I will give credit for the end of last season.
However we have not beat a half decent side for a over a yr.
Any team with pace causes us problems.
As for building a new team/squad this is a major issue.
Dias been shite for 18 mths no pace.
Lewis not good enough.
Nunes not good enough.
Ake always injured.
Akanji ponderously slow.
Bobb hyped up.
Savinho not good enough.
Doku not good enough.
Kovacic not good enough.
Gonzalez i have more movement and pace when im asleep.
The jury is still out on the other new signings
That leaves us Josko,Rodri.Stones and Erling as the 4 top class players we have.
Hopefully Phil can get back to where he was that would give us 5.
If Pep is sanctioning the signings he needs to be told to go.
Im not being reactionary but he thinks we played well against Spurs and for most of yesterday. We were ponderous and slow in both games and this we must control comes from him.
We need an adventurous manager like Irola at Bournemouth.I have no doubt that the charges have hampered us in the transfer market.
However we need to start buying players with pace because this tippy tappy shit aint working anymore.
You are not happy, are you?

ENOUGH

Pep needs to walk away
How can we keep playing cover players as fullback and get found out ? We need a new manager with basic ideas and a basic team

There is NO future in this squad and 4 or 5 players, including Haaland who are not hungry and willing to fight for the badge

ITS simple, something has to change quick and if its the manager then its thank you Pep and goodnight
think your spot on, according to pep, we have two , many players, well when we get rid of some of them ,is that going to make us a better team, when pep is on tv doing the interviews, he has got a face like , fuck off, he looks as though, he has had enough, think a new broom is needed.

I'd send Andy Morrison into the changing room to 'remotivate' this lot, under strict instructions to 'have a word on the brow' of any dissenters/whingers.. then he could do the same for some of the folk on here..

I saw a team run out of ideas, fight and organisation… we were sleep walking to a defeat before the pen was awarded… its deeply concerning for me that the team is being physically bullied all over the pitch and flat out of ideas in the final third and defensively we defend like school boys.
This has to lie with pep, it’s his job to sort it but I fear just like the careers of many of the treble winners, we are in decline and pep doesn’t have the time or belief to turn this one around
Not suggesting pep should go but more this fine era is in a irreversible decline
This should just be a sticky
Covers pretty much everything

What’s that mean?

So, I interpret your this has sack Pep?

No credit for the achievement of last season with unprecedented injuries but still finished third 3 points behind a team that had a good season, got to a FAC Final?
You might have missed it but he is building a new team / squad it takes time for players to adapt to a new league and club
He’s also doing it without a pre season due to the CWC City and Chelsea asked for the PL to delay the season start but were denied
Don’t give a toss about any of that.
If a manager of his stature can’t motivate a squad anymore, then he’s done in my opinion.
I’ve seen zero desire or application from a team full of experienced internationals this season.
If we were blooding youngsters like other teams do, then I’d get it, but we simply aren’t.
What happened over the last decade obviously matters, but almost missing out on a top 5 last season, and then adding the shit show we’ve seen so far, doesn’t resemble a transition to me, it reeks of not giving a shit.

The acid test is against the laughing stock of world football in the next home game.Loose that, and we take their place.
Let’s see who’s up for it?

Just watched the second goal again. Where do you start. So from their goalkeeper the ball moves to their left back. He has time to look up and see that there are 4 Brighton attackers on the half way line vs 3 defenders (Stones has had to move wide to cover for Lewis inverting and he is well into the Brighton half). The left back puts a speculative ball out to the left wing. Stones and the Brighton forward attack the ball. Stones wins it but the challenge is weak. He might have just put the ball in row z but instead the ball is moved in the air around 15 metres straight onto a Brighton head. What the Brighton player sees in front of him is a 3 vs 2 overload with Dias playing all three on side. The header is well executed into space and from then on its really a foregone conclusion. Dias is pulled between 2 attackers and doesn't have the pace to impact either. Ait-Nouri is trying to track Minty but because he was on a high line wont catch him.
Stones made a weak challenge
Dias played three yes three Brighton attackers on side
Pep's inverted full back makes these overloads inevitable against teams that are committed to attacking us.
All this from a move straight from their Goalies hands. Not a fast transition and executed with one forward pass and a header into space.
Other teams will watch that and cream themselves.
Decent analysis. The inverted fullback thing should be in the bin now but it is being persisted with and no end is in sight. The weekly merry go round of who gets picked in the back 4 (or at keeper) doesn’t help either. When you’re struggling make yourself hard to beat

This might be harsh but here goes - if you continue to buy players from Burnley and Wolves, you get Burnley and Wolves results

Once upon a time we were buying the best players in the division, Milner, Lescott, Sterling, Stones, Walker. The modern day equivalent would be Van Der Ven - but we are nowhere near it transfer wise at the moment and haven’t been for a while

Gundogen, scored in a CL final, we’ll have you. KDB, best player in Germany, we’ll have you, the list goes on

It was joke yesterday. Blindingly obvious what was going to happen after 60mins - they made 4 subs and ran all over us

I don't have complaint for the first goal as it is a subconscious act to put elbow up to protect face. for that smashing shot there is no time to think or judge.

for the second goal, it is unforgivable that in the left wing side no one bothered to even move a single step back to help. Doku standing with a defender at the opponent's final third area and a midfielder in the front half court just stand watching.
Well I do in terms of the free kick that led to it. There were at least 3 skirmishes for the ball on that right side and on watching the replay you can see that our players just weren’t strong enough? Especially Marmoush who had all the aggression and will to win of a flower seller.
And then did show said aggression but went diving in recklessly and gave away the foul.
The players need to fight more

As many have said already it's too new a team we're playing with now. They don't know each other yet on the field of play and it could take a long time to gel. Time we don't have unfortunately because of a shit last season, a season where if we'd won a trophy of some sort the pressure would've been off a bit. I don't think our owners will settle for another mediocre season therefore I'll be amazed if Pep sees this season out

And .maybe the day trippers can fuc# off and let the real fans back, let's see how the club react to all the glory hunters going, let's see the non transfer of tickets etc then and I agre with what you say
The day trippers won't fuck off quickly though. The PL is still a major attraction and we've still got global superstars in Haaland and Rodri. I still believe the club will get a nasty surprise when the extension is opened but I doubt they'll be attracting many lapsed Blues unless ticket prices are cut even further and ticket sale restrictions are minimised.

Nice uplifting post to wake up to. Cheers.

So just a repeat of what we saw for 90 minutes against Spurs, a mere eight days earlier.
