Brighton & Hove Albion (A) | Post Match Thread

There's serious problems with the team - and I honestly don't think it matters any more which XI take to the field. The system Pep is choosing to play each week has been found out, worse still the players in the past who could drag a team to victory on there own are missing. Honestly, when I look at our team sheet the only players I would fear are Rodri and Haaland, the rest are either hot-or-cold, not good enough, slow, soft or liable to be out of position at times. The Centuurions, Fourmiddables etc would absolutely BATTER this team.

I don't know if the players are on Easy Street (and if they are, fuck them off), they don't understand what they are being asked to do or - and I think this is the problem - the system Pep has picked is destroying them.

In the last 2 years or so, this team has gone from winning The Treble to one which I think will be lucky to get top 4.

Our keeper situation is laughable - it's something United would do. Get Ederson out and get Donnarumma in, or tie Ederson down. Personally I think Ederson has been kicking back for a while and he has to go. I know he's good with his feet but that save from Trafford today was exactly what we've been missing.

Nunes is not a right back, he's rubbish. Simple as that. Why he is still with us is beyond me and the fact we STILL don't have a right back is shocking. Walker may have irreplaceable , but we've not even attempted to replace him with anyone who comes close. Personally, I think Dias isn't trying hard enough - pushed around, slow and can't read the game any more it seems. His 'recovery' for the 2nd goal was disgraceful. Put these 2 in a defence and you're asking for problems.

It's astonishing that if our left back gets injured we don't have a stand in who's mostly fit.

Our midfield is laughable - it does nothing. It doesn't protect the defence and offers nothing to Haaland. It just seems to pass the ball safely and - most importantly - slowly. We are powderpuff and slow, preferring the safe backward pass rather than trying to drive forward with it.

I find it incredible how 'simple' the goals are against us. We never get beat with a 6-man dribble, a thunderbolt into the top corner, an overhead kick right into the top corner etc, it's either a ball over the top or a ball through the middle. It's really, really, really simple. Klopp was the first to figure this out and we've done absolutely nothing to stop it.

Ultimately, I honestly think the problem is the system. It isn't working and it has to change. If we want to go through this season playing like we did for a large part of last season then we are in for a shock this year.

I watched Liverpool v Arsenal after our game and I hate to say it, but we look a looong way off those teams. Both teams have improved since last year.

I love Pep, he's the greatest manager in our history and the most revolutionary manager English football has ever seen. However, he must remember that once it was Wenger who was revolutionary but didn't update his thinking and became yesterdays man. We could go through other managers like Clough, Mourinho etc etc. Unless we have 11 world class, fast players then this current system won't work anymore and needs changing. I hope he can do that.

I am hoping we're getting our blip out of the way and that maybe we're all over-reacting. I don't think I am as this isn't just based on the 3 games this season. I genuinely and desperately hope Pep can swing this around.

This season will be a defining one for Pep.

United are where they are now because they were too sentimental towards who exactly? Imo it's more a sign of what we could become if we got rid of pep. Trying to replace him when it's just not possible. End up with manager after manager, a complete loss of identity and style.
so when do you think it will be possible ?

Tell me now that my pre match comment is not accurate. I hate calling any city player but where Nunes is concerned he’s simply not close to good enough, he cost us one and almost cost us two more today.

“Sky just discussed whether missin Rodri was the main cause of our slip last season…. No it wasn’t. The main cause of our ”fall” was playing Nunes especially at RB. He’s back today. Anything we take from this game has just become a bonus.’

Stop trying to find a simple answer to a complex problem. The issues are far deeper and murkier than any fan will ever know. To say Nunes caused our decline, come on mate try again with a bit more nuance.

Great post

When Pep was in his pomp, we would have been 3 up before they made their 4 changes on 60 minutes, and if we were only 1-0 up he’d have known exactly what to do to counter their change. Unfortunately for us them days have gone and I doubt that Pep will ever be at that level with us again, time for a change of direction

I kind of agree in that Nunes is wank and a liability but he isn’t the reason we are shit. That’s higher up the food chain.

Very depressing in here tonight. The game was awful and I can't see anything different to last season.

Has anyone been calling people out as 'fanny wipes' yet? That's the normal response on here to negative posts about the team, or the manager
getting less and less, tells its own story

Do you remember the Pep who re-invented Jonny Stones as a hybrid CB/midfielder during the treble season? When's the last time we saw any Innovation like that?

That's the man we need back

Bang on

It seems there is a now a very noticeable section of support that has had enough of Pep, or at least the tactics he's been playing this 12 months, and it is now at its most vocal. Lose to United and more people will openly call for him to leave (some already are).

This, in itself, is troubling.

I disagree that Nunes is rubbish. I once thought he was but changed my mind at the end of last season. Nunes was unfortunate today.

We've gone on far worse runs than this, and played far worse than we did today.
