Brighton & Hove Albion (A) | Post Match Thread

It seems there is a now a very noticeable section of support that has had enough of Pep, or at least the tactics he's been playing this 12 months, and it is now at its most vocal. Lose to United and more people will openly call for him to leave (some already are).

This, in itself, is troubling.
A noticeable section online, many of whom who aren't City fans.

Do you remember the Pep who re-invented Jonny Stones as a hybrid CB/midfielder during the treble season? When's the last time we saw any Innovation like that?

That's the man we need back

Totally agree mate - we need him to get that fire back into his belly and try something outrageous like he used to. You forget his innovations like keepers playing with their feet, no striker needed, inverted full backs - it's insane how he's changed the game.

My worry is that he's lost his mojo or something.

One player nobody is talking about is Kovacic, I personally think we're missing him big time. Keeps that midfield ticking over and can involve himself in some good attacking transitions

He’s not the answer mate, in fact he falls into the shite list of recent signings, can play, a bit, but too old to be relying on him now

I disagree that Nunes is rubbish. I once thought he was but changed my mind at the end of last season. Nunes was unfortunate today.

We've gone on far worse runs than this, and played far worse than we did today.

Nunes is always unfortunate. That ballet dance thing he did today was stupid but it didn't surprise me. He's not a right back and can only play there competently if the opposition are rubbish. He would not be anywhere near Liverpool, Arsenal, Newcastle, Chelsea, Spurs, Forest, Villa etc starting XI. When you compare him to Walker, it's even more bizarre he is playing. Even when he's not at right back he just offers very little.

It's not about the run, it's the pattern of play. We didn't play especially badly today but the lack of pace, power, effort, drive etc. Any team with pace, power and maybe a couple of big lads can undo us quite simply with the easiest ball of all, one over the top or down the middle. This isn't just about today, it's the last year or so.

As for the match, I thought City were reasonable for 55 to 60 mins. Bear in mind the Spurs performance and the tricky trip to Brighton and reducing them to one shot off target for that period, while making at least 4 (5?) very scoreable chances ourselves, was not a bad hour really. I don't think Bobb was as bad as people are saying and it was good to have Rodri playing. Trafford bounced back well after a poor showing last week. If Bobb scores when he should and City potter on to a win, we would be very happy with the response, if slightly underwhelmed.

But we didn't. The recurrent nightmare at the back returned in spectacular fashion. I tend to believe recurrent stuff is systemic, and I refuse to believe every defender we own has suddenly gone shit. I think when they get exposed, it's catastrophic, which is a bad look. I rarely question Pep but this super high line is making a lot of people look silly, regularly. I don't know that to make of it yet, and don't understand it.

As for Haaland, he continues to find the net but 2 major things are becoming regular; 1) he's missing a lot of chances through very poorly struck shots and 2) no fucker else looks even remotely like scoring.

It's the tactics, slow, slow and slower. It has to change ASAP.

mate you cant be serious.

The way we folded today and Pep doing nothing when Brighton changed it up stinks of last season
Also, what did we have to change it ? NO left back, No right back, No striker NO change of system

It feels Bleak with less than 12 hours of the transfer window left and 5 or 6 players not wanting to move, blocking our options to buy Plus 2 keepers are not happy

The most annoying thing bar the ridiculous goal at the end was the lack of effort in the second half to get that 2nd goal. I thought I was watching a friendly during the first 15 mins of that. We just look so devoid of ideas. I don’t mind a season of players finding their feet and transition but not watching the turgid shite we are churning out week after week. The style needs to change.
How about how shit we looked after their first goal? Zero urgency. That's not about talent. That's a team that couldn't give much of a fuck or just doesn't believe in what the boss is telling them. Are people watching the same game?

no one on here is going to argue that Pep isn’t a bloody legend for what he’s achieved for us,

However, I really am starting to worry that he no longer has the answers.

We are being outcoached and outplayed every game
Facts...

nunes would have looked wank in our title winning teams but not in this one
there are a few players that are wank right now as you call him.

Whilst I didn't think we were too bad up to their equaliser it also has to be said Brighton were absolutely Oscar Bobbins today and offered nothing as an opponent on their own ground. The fans were quiet and the game was there for the taking but we were languid, had no pace, passed it sideways and carried on doing so even at 2-1 down with minutes remaining. We just don't seem to have any clue how to attack a team. Even Doku who simply has one instruction when he comes on which surely is to run at the defence otherwise why else bring him on ends up passing it back and sideways more than he tries to take anyone on and when he does he ran it out of play AGAIN.

When they made their 4 subs, it changed the game, even the commentators kept saying it over and over, yet we made no subs to counter it but instead carried on passively. We look drugged up at times we are that leggy.

Still need 2x fullbacks who can actually defend, and 2 wingers who can actually cross a ball.
Going into this season with Nunes & Lewis at the club is a joke, not having the ability to bring in players who actually improve us is a real worry, and being below the rags is embarrassing, if they beat us next time out it’ll be carnage.
Think Pep is too pig headed to change and needs help.
