Brighton & Hove Albion (A) | Post Match Thread

As stated previously, who sells and buys the players? The board or Pep? If Pep then the calibre of the players we have are on him, if not Pep then why is the worlds best manager letting the board pick the transfers?
Anyone who doesn't believe Pep has an enormous say in who comes, who stays, and who goes is absolutely delusional. He admitted as much when he said it was him that did not want any big additions last Summer. On occasion the director makes his own move. It's easy to tell when this happens. All ya gotta do is watch for the players that constantly get shortchanged for time when it seems illogical. That's Pep's way of reminding the director who is in charge.
There's a difference between not winning all the time and being dysfunctional. We've obviously become dysfunctional. There's losing a game and then there's the shit we've been up to...

In City I trust. I’m not throwing the baby out with the bath water. They will turn it round.
You don’t give up at the first few hurdles you keep going. IMHO
Tell that to the players and coach. The same poor attitude now since the fa cup defeat to the rags.

Trust is earned.

Following City since the mid-50s, there were several seasons of great success; league titles, FA cup wins, Europe. These achievements were sporadic, interspersed with mid-table mediocracy and several relegations. That was City, we won, we lost, we accepted it. It defined “Typical City” taking joy when we won games we weren’t supposed to and accepting defeat when beaten by better opposition. Happened often, no “Great Expectations”, and continuing with the Dickens theme “A Tale of Two Cities”, “The best of times, the worst of times”

With the Abu Dhabi take-over, we rocketed to the stratosphere, led by 3 great managers, a world-class squad of players and, for 10 years, we’ve hoovered up all the prizes.

An epoch better to have had and lost, than never had at all. Managers come and go, even the best of them. Just as Pep learnt from Cruyff and Ancelotti, so many upcoming coaches will have learnt from Pep, we will find them. If we do return to “Typical City, then I’m simply getting my old City back, no longer expecting or demanding we win everything. Makes for much more relaxed watching.

Just a personal view.
I get ya. Don't have 50 years but have 31. Typical City didn't spend billions on players and pay their manager 20 mil per year. It's an entirely different set of parameters...get rid of Pep and all the mega salaried stars and then maybe being Typical City would be much more palatable. Don't see the current ownership opting for that plan any time soon.

What is best for the club in your opinion? Get rid of Pep, Khaldoon resign, Mansoor Jack it all in? Prey tell, I await your insightful input.
Maybe Pep needs a Pep talk from the Mgt/Khaldoon - change tactics, motivate and toughen up the players, we have been worked out and more of the same with lesser players is not going to cut it.

How has the treble winning team become this mess in just over 2 years?

It was always gonna happen eventually but never thought it would happen in the blink of an eye and under pep

Complacency and poor management at boardroom level and sadly pitch level appears to be the obvious answer

It's not a few though is it. Let's face it, barring a few exceptions, we've been bang average or worse for a season and a half now. We've certainly been boring as fuck for that long.

been saying this for 12months now, hate saying it because for a few seasons Dias was immense, but for far too long now he’s been woeful, Slow, below average passing, clueless positional sense & worse of all for a unit of a bloke he gets outmuscled to the ball the majority of the time, he’s been atrocious for ages now, he’s an absolute liability nobody wants to admit, i didn’t want to because of his previous excellence, but wether that was a prime walker & a fit Rodri covering for him i don’t know but it’s obvious the opposition target him as a weak link because he is, why we’ve extended his contract instead of going in for Marc Guéhi i have no clue, and Livramento or another top right back considering Nunes & Rico’s competition between each other to see who can play worse.
Couldn't agree with that anymore. I honestly don't understand what Pep sees in him, like you say all his defensive attributes are shite and especially his awareness. I don't understand why he was jogging back like that today for the second goal. Some people claim he's a leader but im sorry, imagine playing along side him taking instructions off someone who can't even make a 10 yard pass. He literally adds nothing to our team.

Khusanov was a massive positive for me. When he got subbed off it shown.

I don't have complaint for the first goal as it is a subconscious act to put elbow up to protect face. for that smashing shot there is no time to think or judge.

for the second goal, it is unforgivable that in the left wing side no one bothered to even move a single step back to help. Doku standing with a defender at the opponent's final third area and a midfielder in the front half court just stand watching.

Khusanov this week, Alt Nouri last week going off killed us

Long day bed now. Still in all competitions so people shouldn’t panic the quadruple still on!!
Well done to all the fans who at the end stood and clapped the players and Pep for a good few minutes when they came and stood in front of us. Think that meant a lot to them and us. Manchester City we fight til the end and season only just begun. Night all.

I first went to Maine Road in 1959, City are and always will be my team. I feel privileged to have, over the last few years, watched one of the best club football teams that the world has produced. Some of the football has been stunning and I’m grateful to our owner and our managers for that. But all good things come to an end and after the last few matches it feels like the end of an era. Hopefully we can transition and become that great team again, but I think we have to reduce our expectations for the next couple of seasons.

Can Pep achieve this transition? I hope so but I wonder whether his marital difficulties and the continual negative pressures from the media might have worn him down. He deserves the chance to try, if he wants. We have to, I think, accept lower expectations and give support rather than condemnation.

Well they’ve earned mine over the years. I didn’t give up on my (bad) marriage at the first few hurdles and I won’t give up on this team or Pep just yet. It took me 15 yrs to give up so I’m a patient (or foolish) woman! :-);

Just rewatched the second goal. Puts a poor challenge and then just jogs back when in fact he could’ve been back on the line in time to block that goal. Reminded me of Kolarov against Liverpool that time, only he at least played a good bit of the game unlike Dias. It’s a mystery to me why he’s been in such decline.

Maybe he was sulking after getting benched ? he was a beast up until the treble season but I'm just sick of him now.

Khaldoon and Mansour need to sort this shitshow out. This goes right to the top. Pep has lost the dressing room and is stuck in a loop of mistakes. They now need to do what’s best for the club.
What’s that mean?

So, I interpret your this has sack Pep?

No credit for the achievement of last season with unprecedented injuries but still finished third 3 points behind a team that had a good season, got to a FAC Final?
You might have missed it but he is building a new team / squad it takes time for players to adapt to a new league and club
He’s also doing it without a pre season due to the CWC City and Chelsea asked for the PL to delay the season start but were denied
