It's not a new thing though. Staff accept worse conditions to keep the job when a firm hits financial trouble, the firm is saved, and the bosses get big bonuses for saving the firm.

Airline staff at BA, firefighters in Hereford and Worcester, bus drivers in Manchester... all been subject to it.

And even Rees-Mogg dislikes it:

That's an understatement, he is fucking livid.

Lads like him who have given their all to the company are being treated like shit.

British Gas/centrica are a company run by utter cunts, Pete has shown me a lot of the correspondence from them and it is incredible they have got away with this. Its been virtually ignored by the media and it should be a national scandal.

I know a few lads who’ve worked for British Gas for 30 odd years,they’ve had enough of the bully boy tactics and being treated like shit,and left.

I’m a union rep and branch secretary for the GMB (please don’t shoot ;) we’ve been trying to publicise this for quite a while the media don’t want to join any campaign whilst the unions are involved, obviously they’ve had history with the unions but the mirror did at least run a front page this week. Again for me it’s not political this it’s what’s ethically correct and morally correct. No loyalty whatsoever for those who have worked bloody hard in the past .

No shooting from the lefties like me, i despise how the unions have been emasculated by the rabid capitalist cunts.

You are correct though, this is a moral issue, if companies are allowed to treat BG workers as garbage then who is next, everyone on here who works becomes slaves to the company they work for. All they are then are capitalist units of production whose surplus value lines the pockets of the idle rich. All terms and conditions become open to abuse and every gain the working class has made over the last few centuries along with the unions are in danger of being lost.

The EU has fuck all to do with it tbf, fire and rehire isn't against european, employment laws.

Asda, British Airways and others in france have used this tactic in previous years while under EU law

Only in Spain and Ireland is it enshrined in the countries own employment laws as far as I am aware.


Obvioulsy it makes it easier to be cuntish with them but let's not make this a brexit thread and dilute the issue.

I’ll be looking to get rid of British Gas now. Any suggestions for a decent alternative for servicing?
