Here is what they said to the MEN
Point one. If they think their coverage of City in the CL has been fair this season they have neither judgment nor insight. For a national broadcaster those are quite serious faults. Not ones you would associate with a broadcaster that 'takes their responsibility extremely seriously'.
Point two. They were clearly unwilling to cooperate with the BBC in relation to rescheduling the Chelsea FA Cup game. Make of that what you will.
Point three. Their explanation of the missing FA Cup final is disingenuous. It is misleading for their statement to refer to 'a number of classic' FA Cup finals because that suggests an editorial judgment about what constitutes a classic FA Cup final was made, and implies that we are simply having a hissy fit that the Stoke game wasn't considered a classic. In fact, as we all know, every single cup final from the 1980s onwards was aired with one single exception. The statement therefore tends to mislead, which is precisely what it was designed to do.
Point four. It appears that mass cancellations of BT membership from City fans has had at least some effect, because they are at last answering their criticism after having ignored it all season. If however this statement is BT's answer, intended to pour oil on those troubled waters, I would have thought this shabby, disingenuous response is singularly unlikely to achieve that effect. In fact it is more likely to have the opposite view.
Anyone from BT reading this might want to reflect on the hole they are in, and to see in practical terms what they can do - not say - to demonstrate that they have decided to stop digging.
